I grew open pollinated seeds this year and I want to save the seeds from some of my beans, tomatoes, etc. My family is helping me harvest our veggies as they are ready to be picked, so can I mark my beans, etc., with a permanent Sharpie marker so that they don't pick the ones I want for seed????? I posted this on the Seed Savers forum but no one has responded. They probably don't get the traffic that this forum gets. If you have any other ideas on how to easily mark them so they don't get picked, I'd appreciate the help!!
Thanks!

I personally wouldn't mark them. I'd tie something on them or put a bag over them or something like that.
I think Gwendalou has excellent advice. The sharpies are easy to read and will probably last a season for you. Down here they fade so fast that I've started just using pencil on cut up mini blinds. If all you want to do is mark a tomato or a squash, just put a bread tie or some bright yarn on the stem. You can drive a stake in a row of beans and tell them to start picking after they pass the stake.
