What to plant in place of tomatoes?

Delaware, OH

I have a home garden where I have been growing tomatoes, peppers, cukes and a variety of ever-changing veges for 5 years. Fortunately, it's large enough for me to have been able to shift locations each year, but now I have to find some replacement crops for next year. The presence of blights, wilts etc. tells me that I have to give it a rest. What should I plant in their place that is not susceptible to the same ills and that will be fun to grow?

Beans and peas do well in after tomatoes, and they provide the soil wit much-needed nitrogen. I've also alternated with corn in my gardens with success. Also root crops, such as onions, but remember not to plant your peas & beans near the onions as they do not get along!
