She did it!!!

Denver, CO

My clever little prodigy did it this morning. She laid her first egg. I'm so proud. She was the one I was afraid was a rooster. Well I guess this ends that debate. And she's not even quite 4 months old. She got some Cheetos and cherries as a reward, but she was pretty nonchalant about it. She didn't even cackle. My dh asked if I had given the chickens an egg lol. Nope they gave us one. Now I've got to get on that calcium supplement thing, because the shell wasn't real hard.

YAY! We have some of those....not too sure if it is hen or roo. None of ours have layed an egg yet. 4 months is early, what a girl!

i had my first eggs this year and one of the hens laid soft eggs for the first few days . i don't believe that is abnormal. it should straighten itself out. if you are feeding pellets they should get all the nutrients they need.

congratulations!

She's been totally full of herself ever since. I don't know if it was hormones, or the cheetos and the praise, but she is being a bully prima donna now. She's the one who stared down the cat when she was only 3 weeks old, when she was only a little fluffy thing, and chased the squirrel out of our yard, a couple months later. She's been always the most affectionate one, and the cuddliest, but today she's acting like a nasty rooster. I guess she deserves her day in the sun.

Congrats!!! The first egg is always a reason for celebration. woooohoooo!! :D
My little silkies began laying this summer as well. The eggs are so small. Mini scramble!
What kind of chicken is it that is laying now? I am doing the Happy Dance for you.
