Mushroom compost

Cleburne, TX(Zone 8a)

Many years ago, we went somewhere in Ellis County, I think, to get mushroom compost by the pickup load. Maybe near Maypearl or Hillsboro?? Neither DH nor I can remember exactly. (Senior memories and all.) Does anyone know location south of D/FW metroplex for buying mushroom compost now?

Thanks.

I know you said south and I know you said by the load, but I don't know of any place. We got our mushroom compost at Marshall Grain in Fort Worth.

Well, thanks for trying anyway. Both DH and I feel rather stupid not being able to remember where the place was exactly. It was out in the country and I think the person had a contract for removing it from the mushroom grower's facility and it was a stack about 30 feet long and 10 feet high and he loaded our pickup with a big front-end loader and it was relatively cheap and great stuff. We got 2 or 3 loads of it. But we have slept since then (LOL) and can't even remember who told us about it back then.

I think I've heard that the mushroom company near Hillsboro went out of business but don't know that for sure. Hopefully someone on DG will have a better memory than I do.

Marshall Grain Company (817) 536-5636 is great and usually has it.

Bruce Miller (972) 238-0204 will sometimes have it.

Calloways (214) 363-0525 will sometimes have it also

The mushroom grower was north of Waxahachie on old 77. Been closed for several years. I have been buying mushroom compost by the bag from Lowe's in Waxahachie along with Texas Green Sand and Lava Sand. Has made a huge difference in my beds.

Sorry. I, too, wanted to buy from the grower.

Went searching yesterday and Sand & Gravel To Go in Burleson has bulk mushroom compost. It is $60 a yard. Said that is about a pickup load.

Their soil that they call Promix is mushroom compost, sharp sand, turkey manure and top soil. May be something else too. Can't remember. Some of our new beds were made with that and I've been very pleased. So decided no reason to haul and unload pickup loads of the mushroom stuff and have to mix with other ingredients. Got 10 yards of the Promix delivered this morning.

Now, if I was just 15 years younger and it was 20 degrees cooler.... LOL.

Happy Gardening,

agreed. We are near Living Earth Technologies who also have unbelievable mixtures. Last year we had the landscapers pick up several p/u truck loads and spread it for us. Don't have the money this year. As you say....way too hot.
