I'm having a problem with my patty pan squash -- for the most part, I am getting big, healthy vegetables off this plant. But at the same time, about 1/10th of the crop is doing something really weird. The squash will begin to grow - getting about the size of a walnut. Suddenly it will turn gray and get the strangest texture -- sort of like silly-putty from when I was a kid... not quite gushy, not quite watery, not quite rubbery... but definitely gross. I can pick it, and it retains it's shape. Yesterday I went out to really clean the plant of this weirdness and found several small squash that seem to have petrified -- hard as a rock (and dark brown).
Any suggestions? Anyone? I can attach a picture tomorrow if needed. Thanks!
Squishy, rubbery, gray patty pan squash?
