A very strange thing has happened with my Yukon Gold spuds. Planted them the normal way, in normal garden soil, in 4' x 12' boxes. Grew normally, flowered normally but now have developed green little tomato like thingys on 90% of the plants. Have dug and eaten some potatoes as new potatoes and they are fine.
Does anybody have a clue what is happening to my potato plants? I've never seen this before in 60 years of gardening/ Hope somebody can tell me waht is happening here.
No photos because haven't worked out how to get photos from camera to new computer.
Cheers

Potato tomatoes????
Those are the seed pods. Seed will not be true. Very poisonous.
Just ignore them.

country is right they are poisonous ( i think it is selenium) poisonous in larger amounts but often found in small quantities in vitamin supplements .. take them off if you have chickens or other pets or kids with curiosity and the love of eating all things.

Thank you so much for the info. This has never happened before to me. Very interesting. I've picked them off so kiddos won't get them.

The seed pods are true seeds that you can grow small tubers from then in turn plant the tuber for potatoes. I had some on two od my varieties and have saved them for experimenting with come December. The pods ripen to a fruity smell and are soft.
