Frankfort, KY(Zone 6a)

Does anyone grow these, I got the seeds from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds.
It's says they grow to 18" long, I have many 22"...lets here it for the rabbit poo. ^_^
More to follow.

Into the kitchen with the first harvest.
One interesting thing about this bean is how tightly it grips whatever it is growing on.
One vine would grow up and another following would wrap around the first and crush some of the firsts leaves under it.

I hulled the largest pods, the beans are spaced quite a distant apart.
By the way, the rabbits love the hulls.

It recommends to sauteed the young beans, nothing about hull them.
We tried both, my fingers were stained purple from hulling them.
Sauteed some onion and garlic in bacon fat and a few bacon pieces.
The hulled beans were boiled in water with bacon fat, bacon pieces, chopped onion and garlic.
I enjoyed the boiled more than the sauteed, but the sauteed were tender.

The green varieties of Asparagus or Yard Long Beans were more productive for me than the red.
The reds were more suseptable to aphids and ants.
They are very delicious as snaps in southern peas

Hemental, try planting a few milkweed...I have a milkweed growing next to the beans and it is full of aphids, none on the beans, I do have some ants walking around.
I will grow these again next year.
