only to see in the files that these are moths....
My first season with milkweed and I thought I had butterflies...
Janet
I got my hope all up that these were monarch Butterflies....
Yes, the tussock caterpillars will strip your plants. Best to relocate them to a wooded area away from your flowerbeds.
do they do that to all plants or just the milk weeds? If it is only milk weed plant than I don't care.
Thanks for responding.
Janet
Well if you want Monarch's you should care, because milkweed is the only plant the Monarch lays it's eggs on and the only plant the caterpillar feeds on. I can never have too much milkweed. Do you have a lot of it up there? We in TX have to plant seeds or buy plants to keep up with the Monarchs when they migrate.
The milkweed in the picture is what grows wild up here. I 3 weeks ago cut down 8 stalks (I checked very closely for eggs and none, only aphids, which is why I cut it down. These two smaller ones are from underground runners....
I have two seed pods in the back yard, would you like me to send you some seeds when they are ripe?
If so send me your mailing address and I'll send them when they are ripe.
Janet
