My smiley faces have disappeared!

I recently figured out how to change the default font and margins on the default Microsoft Word document -- hallelujah. But now, when I type the colon and parenthesis -- :) -- I don’t get the smiley face anymore -- it’s gone!

Does anyone know what happened? Darned Microsoft . . .
