CLOSED: Bullock's Oriole?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

This cute little guy was in my bird bath today. A Cardinal landed to check him out. They were about the same size. Is this a Female or Immature Bullock's Oriole? First time I've seen this type of bird around.

Thanks for your help.

Certainly an oriole, but I'd say more likely Baltimore than Bullock's - the brightest yellow is on the upper breast, whereas on Bullock's the brightest yellow is on the cheeks

Thanks, Resin. They do look pretty similar. Do you think the Baltimore comes this far South?

Checked the distribution maps - you're just in their mapped breeding range, Sibley shows them breeding south to roughly Hillsboro. It is also late enough in the summer now that some will be starting a slow southward drift to get a headstart on migration.

In Texas, Bullock's only breed in western half, west of roughly Abilene / San Antonio, they're fairly rare east of that.

Thanks, Resin. I appreciate the research. I am so happy to have seen this bird. The photos aren't great, because I captured them from video. I hope I'll see it again and get another chance.

Gosh, that was nice of the cardinal to sit down for a size comparison.

I was just noticing the past few days a few birds acting like they're getting ready to head out. I haven't had a chance to talk to anyone else to see if they're seeing the same thing, or if it was just a little set of coincidences. It's a little early, but I was thinking maybe with the drought they've decided they may as well get going. Tell your guy to stock up! There's nothing to eat down here.
