I was at the Tuesday Morning in Manassas for a minute the other day. They had a tall, metal angel trellis that looked right up your alley. It was $34.99, was three dimensional, not flat, in off-white painted metal. It was very cute. Chantell, I know you've been trellis hunting too. It's in the window to the left of the door as you're facing the store.
Stormy! I forgot to tell you
Thanks, Hart. My keyboard isn't working.
You need a virtual keyboard.
http://download.cnet.com/Virtual-Keyboard/3000-2079_4-10596934.html this one uses your mouse
http://www.virtual-keyboard.com/ this one is touch screen
Not the same as a regular keyboard but better than none and both are free or at least free to try.
and I forgot to tell you stormyla--that the Cassia marilandica WAS standing up nice and strong but one of the recent rains knocked it over as they are wont to do with tall plants. I had to prop and tie it. Doesn't look too bad. My gardening would be improved if I came to grips with staking needs and was proactive in getting stakes placed early.
Thanks, Hart. I'm trying to figure out how to use it
Sallly, I didn't realize that it is Senna. I've been wanting some for a while now.
I'll only have 3 billion seeds to share LOL, I'll 'see what I can do" I think it does not divide and move well when mature.
Sally, I spent HOURS this summer staking Iris, then shifting Iris stakes to Asiatic Lillies, then shifting to Oriental Lillies and I gave up and didn't stake the Glads. Just didn't have the time. Each wave of plants started out with the 3' stakes, then graduated to the 4's. The tomatoes were being retied to longer and longer stakes every few days and now have outgrown the 6's. At one point, I transferred the peony hoops to the Salvia May Night.
I'm finished staking for the season unless the Hellenium and Asters need it. I even had to stake some Euphorbias and Monardas. Then there were the 4' tall Columbines that needed staking. I stopped planting Dahlias beause of the constant restaking. Oh, gosh I forgot, there will be reblooms on a lot of the Iris.
Just the dead heading of the Daylilies, galliardia, salvias, echies, heliopsis and many others take so much time, I hardly can get any planting done. The roses need constant pruning.
Now I'm discovering the joys of vine training. It's amazing that any planting gets done. Weeding has become a byproduct of other nearby jobs. Feeding, spraying, dusting, drenching, Bug releasing. The list goes on and on.
4 foot columbines!!!!!
all that staking can add up $ too.
I'm thinking all the rain has the a lot of plants leggy this year. The snapdragons I planted and pinched are falling around like drunken sailors. Usually pinching them give you multiple florets and a more compact plant but these grew to the height of "rockets" with being pinched. Ric
Ric, I think you are right about the leggy look this year. Some of the younger plants that I have are staying leggy despite pinching back. I'm finding this especially so on the more draught tolerant plants.
Those Columbines weren't leggy, just too tall and top heavy for the thin bloom stalks. They were 4 year old Black Barlowes.
The little aster you gave me at Swap has done very well, growing to a nice mound about a foot around and starting to bloom. Think it'll be taller next year? If not I need to move it.
Sally, That Aster stays around 18" tall. Glad it's doing well for you.
Thanks, I will choose the right spot for it now.
Sally, if you want some taller Asters, I will have more at the next swap.
I'm gonna cry...just saw this...and I'm in Manassas every weekend....is that the one over in Manaport Shopping Ctr, Diane?
