I love learning what faces go with which names of AVs. If you have a new plant or leaf and want to know what she will look like, post it here and someone with First Class can show a picture. Better yet, someone else might have their own picture to share.
Here are 4 plants I received in the mail today: These are small plants so can't share leaves yet , but will be happy to when they grow a little bigger.
Lil Darlin' (7252) 11/10/1989 (N. Johnston) Single bright pink sticktite/variable white tips. Variegated dark green, pebbled. Miniature
Want To Share the Name of a New AV You Have?
Gail, I have Ness' Sheer Peach in full bloom right now. But it's not as dark pink as this picture. It's lighter and more of a peach color. I've got to find my camera. Hope one of my kids doesn't have it.
Pat, I have grown her and remember that she is really a peach color........not the pink in my picture..........love her!!
Hope you take a picture of her in bloom......find that camera......smiling.
I have a bunch of them in bloom right now. I may have to go buy another camera.
Gail, I'd like to try posting a couple of pictures. Can you talk me through the process? I tried to cut and paste but that doesn't work here. Thanks!
pat;
go down past the post here & you will see a box where you can type something also a box that says browse, click on browse & a window will pop up with your picture files, just click on your picture files & find a picture you want to put on here & double click on that picture, that will post your picture here try it.you can preview it before posting if you want.
bonnie
Thank you, Bonnie. That was easy. Now if I can just find my camera instead of having to use my phone, I'll be able to post some better pictures.
Anybody have suggestions for a good background for taking pictures of plants? I don't think my kitchen counter does them justice.
Ooo I just put down a leaf for Rob's Love Bite! So cute.
That is amazing that you can take that good of a picture with your phone!!!!! I have an old article from the AVSA magazine I have been wanting to scan and put on DG about photo tips. He says to set up your own little studio just so any solid background will work for taking pictures. He goes on to say it doesn't matter what color the background is.........just a solid color. Your sink has a pattern in it so it distracts from your lovely pictures..
I have an old black skirt (long) that went to a fancy pancy suit I wore to my daughter's wedding and I put old shoe boxes to hold the back ground higher than the sink..........to take pictures....
Rob's Jitterbug is my favorite of all those pics. Will keep my eye out for that one on Fred's site.
Here is Rob's Rinky Dink from First Class......she is pretty regardless of whether she is a sport.
Rob's Rinky Dink (8739) 07/25/1998 (R. Robinson) Semidouble dark burgundy-red pansy. Dark green, pointed, glossy/red back. Miniature
I think yours is prettier than the 'real thing'......hold on to her............
Gail, I have FC2. That's why I questioned this plant. You're right! I think it's pretty too. Just wondering whether to label it as a sport or not. You're welcome to a leaf and I can save you a little plant from Rob's Jitterbug. I just divided a pot. Just add it to your list for our trade.
I agree with you. That granite countertop is too busy as a background for the plants. I'll have to work on setting up a little area for pictures. I'm guessing that overhead light would be good for showing off the flowers.
Pat, I am so unorganized...........that when it comes time to trade......you may have to lead the way .
If those aren't her first blooms, she is a great sport for sure!! Prettier than her mother plant!
Sally, you always have the best pics........
I honestly don't know if these are the first blooms for this plant. I quess I'll just have to wait for it to bloom again and see what happens.
I knew I would lose track of trades so I started a Word document. Each time someone asks about a trade, I copy the message onto this list. Otherwise I'd never remember any of it. I have a list going for you, Bonnie, and Jen (jmp). I just figured we should wait for a little cooler weather so we don't take a chance on losing any plants or leaves in the process.
Rob's Love Bite is just amazing. Love the colors!! They are all so pretty. Shoot, I've never seen a violet that I didn't like!!
great idea........Pat..........I will have to go through a lot of threads from the past.........then just copy and paste. I wondered how I was ever going to keep up with all this.
Gail, you wanted Aly's Rosy Baby, Allegro Winsome Pink, Rob's Jitterbug, and this "sport" of Rob's Rinky Dink.
You were sending me Everdina, Auburn Trail, and Blooper.
I'll check the threads too in case I forgot something.
I'll update my list in case anyone else wants to trade.
meag848 - I have lots of Rob's Love Bite if you want to trade leaves.
Do I have Auburn Trail and Blooper ???????? Laughing out loud........
I ordered Allegro Winsome Pink but would love the others............Tell me if I have Auburn Trail and Blooper......they don't sound familiar....
Pat, after this weekend, I will send you a dmail with all I do have or post them.............then you can pick and choose..........
I know Everdina is one you want badly.........
Next week, I will publicly post the avs I do have...........so I can make lots of trades in the fall..........
Well, your message to me said "don't order Auburn Trail or Blooper since they are on my list." So...you'll have to figure that one out. I'll also send you a dmail and then post it next week as well.
Anticipation! I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas. The trades! The Round Robin! What next?
I will have to look...........have ordered so many lately, I don't know what I have.........do you know where I was shopping......I must have wanted them.............I will go to ebay and search for those two............
Someone on a thread asked if anyone had ever grown Willodene.........I found an old picture of her but don't have her now. She was a good one to grow.
I used to not write the names on my pics so I think this is Willodene. Wish I could find the right thread where someone asked about her.
Here she is in First Class:
Willodene (10010) 10/18/2008 (M. Lineberg/I. Lineberg) Double light peach-pink two-tone/darker ruffled edge, variable green tips. Variegated dark green, white and pink, wavy. Large
I thought they were from Fred. I think you posted that when you were placing your first order from him. If you ended up not ordering them, it's not a big deal. Don't go crazy trying to find them.
You know I can't stand it until I do find them............will double check and would love to have an excuse to go back to him for more if I don't have them..........thanks for telling me it was Fred.......going to look at my plants now.....
You know we talked about ordering leaves from Violet Venture too. Maybe that's the list you were talking about. We both had a wish list going on that website.
I will go check Violet Venture as I have not turned in that order yet.........
Doesn't he do the best job of growing and packing you have ever received........I have an orchid trail and she is fantastic!!! I have grown her and you will fall in love with the orchid color bloom.
This is so much fun sharing what we get...........
I tried to search him out to put on my saved sellers list--couldn't find him. Any ideas?
Other people say they are having trouble , too. Let me link him to you...............
http://shop.ebay.com/thegreenmule/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=25
Fred is going to have to work overtime to keep up with all of us ordering from him.
Don't you know he is overwhelmed .......lol
I need to contact him and tell him not to send a gift I was sending. There won't be anyone home to get them..............He won't be mailing until Monday anyway, so I have time........
Now we will start supplying him with good leaves that he doesn't have as we go along and my new plants all start to get big enough to take leaves from. I have my out on some right now on ebay.....
Thanks--it worked. I have seen him before--knew him as The Green Mule. He has some nice stuff, and at great prices. Don't know why he wasn't on my saved sellers list. My loss.
