We've been seeing this Night Heron for a while now. We finally managed to get a half way decent picture of it. It makes the strangest calls. It almost sounds like a squirrel. We've had a Great Blue Heron in the garden a few times too, but I haven't managed to get a pic of it yet. It's strange to see them in a suburban Houston neighborhood.

He sure is pretty. Is that a Yellow-crowned Night Heron? It's chin is darker than our Black-crowned? Hope you'll get more photos of this beauty.

I've seen a lot of Yellow-crowns this summer on the larger lakes. They seem to prefer open areas with rocky shoreline. They are fairly tolerant of an approach for photos.
