Difference Between Branching and 'Y'ing'?

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

This may see like a silly question, but is there a difference? If so, then how can I tell whether my brug has 'Y'd' or just branched?

another question: is it possible to over fertilize a brug?

On your question of over fertilizing Brugs. It depends on what you mean by over fertilizing. Root and plant damage? Too much top growth and few flowers? Brugs are fertilizer hogs, but it is possible to over fertilize if you use more fertilizer than the recommended rate of application or if you fertilize when the soil is dry. The salts in the fertilizer 'burn' the roots by causing them to shrivel up. The damaged roots can't absorb water and nutrients. Visible signs of too much fertilizer are yellow margins on the leaves and in some plants lots of leaves, but with few flowers. If you read Chrissy's link, it explains how Brugs produce their fllowers. In Brugs more top growth means more flowers. Once the plant "Y"s, the buds are formed at the base of the leaf stems. More leaves means more flowers. If the plant is in the vegetative growth cycle, fertilizer encourages the plant to reach the flowering cycle faster. Some DGers feed their Brugs every 3 or 4 days without any visible signs of leaf or plant damage.
