Help replacing sound card driver

Everything sounds like the chipmunks on my mom's pc. I've obtained a replacement sound card driver from the manufacturer's website. Here's my question: Did I need to delete the existing one first? I ran the program to install it, but did not delete the old one, and nothing has changed. Of course, the driver may not be the problem anyway.

Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.
