Chocolate Chip Date Cake - Recipe

Here is my recipe for Chocolate Chip Date Cake.... a cake my mother always made when i was a child.

Chocolate Chip Date Cake
- 1 cup [8 oz] Date, cut up into pieces
- 1 1/4c boiling water
**Mash and cool

3/4c Shortening
1c granulated sugar
2 eggs
** cream together

1 1/2c flour
1/4tsp Salt
1tsp baking soda
1TBSP cocoa
**Sift together

1/2c chopped nuts [i use either walnuts or pecans]

Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture, alternating with dates, then add nuts.
Pour into 9x13 pan

**Topping
1/2c granulated sugar
1) 12oz bag chocolate chips

sprinkle on top of cake mixture

Bake 350 for 35 minutes
