I know its not Painted Lady...learned that much this month. Thought I had it all figured out to be Pete's Blue & now look what she has done. I wondered where the pink went from the 1st bloom.....well here it is back with a blast. Maybe we should just name this chameleon cause it keeps changing. Should I tie something on this branch to see what happens with it later. It's lovely but is an enigma to me.
Judy
I'm not believing this "Painted Lady" Wilfred.
This was when we decided it was Pete's Blue. Several blooms looked like this. You may be right, Jon, with Pinkaboo, but may have to call it Peakaboo as it looks like I'll never know what will happen till it blooms & I take a peak. Was getting real used to the blue-lavendar-silver look so I ran for the camera when I saw this bloom just opening. Maybe its not nice to fool Mother Nature. At least it is pretty. Kind of on the slow side about blooming but I have a feeling the heat may have something to do with that. And, since its new I'm not putting it in full sun yet. My GV are blooming like crazy in this heat.
Judy
It sure is different. It will be interesting to see what the blooms look like when you get to cooler days in October.
Oh I LOVE all it's different 'faces"--dark pink, mixture of pink, purple--they are all pretty! These are my favorite colors!!!!!
Patty
Thanks, Patty, mine too. Anxious to see what the next ones will be like.
Judy
I don't know what it is but it sure is a beauty!
Darla
Thanks, Darla.
Judy
Hi Judy,
All versions look great, it would be nice if you could get all the different looks to bloom at the same time.
Patrick
Thanks, Patrick. Maybe it will have different colors at the same time when it gets a little cooler. Now I'm lucky to get one at a time. By this evening it was a deep rosy color. Fun plant to watch.
Judy
Jon, you said it would be interesting to see what it does in Oct. Well here it is. Is this a sport? And, Wilfred, I did what you & maybe Patrick suggested & tied a pink ribbon on the branch that had the other different bloom & this is on the opposite side of the plant & close to the bottom. Did take some cuttings during the faze & they sure look good, Wilfred. But, no telling what they will look like when they bloom. This "Morning Star" that I bought as "Painted Lady" should be called "Mystery Lady". Anyway, I do like it. Whatever it decides to do is pretty to me. But, I've yet to see an ugly Hibiscus.
Judy
Here y'all can see where I tied a little pink ribbon on the 1st branch that had the 1st rosy bloom. Think one of the parents was this deep color. Here is what I do know about Morning Star. Bred in Australia by Hubert Groszman & parents from Nathan Charles X Tango. Won HOTY in Australia in 1993. So, I reckon I need to see a pix of Nathan Charles & Tango. Anyone have those?
There is a Hibiscus that has literally dozens of sports but my old brain can't think of it right now. I'll search & let y'all know which one. Later this week...having a beautiful sunny day & they are calling for big rains starting tomorrow. Hope everyone is having a beautiful day.
Judy
Nice bloom. I don't think its a sport. It just looks like you're getting many different variations of pink blooms on the plant. The colors, from bloom to bloom, can vary quite a bit. The change in temperatures from August till now can also change the coloration.
Jon
Thanks for the pix, Eclipse. Have that one with the white veins & several other Painted Ladies that look like a darker pink. Jon, I looked up the CV history & Nathan Charles is the pod parent & looks similar to my bloom today & the one on Aug 11th except its a semi double that is really red. Didn't show a pix of Tango, which was the pollen parent.
Dorothy Brady is the CV that I couldn't think of earlier that put off 20 or more sports. I'd say that was one confused plant. :-)
Dee, I'm working on your box. Will send it out next Mon. You're on my list too, Wilfred.
Your vines are rooted & waiting to go to new homes.
Thanks again everyone for your input. Have a wonderful night.
Judy
It could even be one of those cultivators that puts out both single and double flowered blooms. There are some of those out there. I have one called "Lemon Life" that does that.
Judy, I had to laugh when you said you thought you were going to die if you didn't buy this one. haha. I often have the same problem and my husband thinks I am mad buying another plant again. Don't you think you have enough he says. But I don't think I ever have enough plants! haha.
Leeuwtje, we all must be mad. Really enjoy the pix other people post & make up my "wish list" but when you see one in person it is a whole different story. Self control just flies out the window. But, playing in the dirt keeps me off the streets & out of the pool halls.
Jon, would love to see your Lemon Life. Have any pix?
More later....its girl's day out. Have a good day everyone.
Judy
Hi Judy
LOL. I mixed up my Lemons. I have both Lemon Life and Lemon Empress. The sometimes single/sometimes double blooms are on Lemon Empress. I can't locate the photos of Lemon Empress, but I did post one in the plant files section of Dave's Garden.
Jon
Morning Star yesterday. Really different again. This was affected by the cold weather we have been having. At least I think that may be the case. Had our first White Christmas
since 1924. Hope y'all are eating your Black Eyed Peas & cabbage for good luck today.
Have a great 2010 everyone.
Hugs,
Judy
Wilfred - your Neon Morning is the prettiest bloom I've seen. I'd buy one in a heartbeat if you go commercial with it. I, too, love my Painted Lady. Your thread with your various crosses is spectacular! Wowzer!
