Please comment. I'm about to fill two new raised beds with my year-old sifted compost, Black Kow Composted manure, spent coffee grinds, and either MG potting mix or soil. The bed will be used to grow turnips, beets, lettuce, onions (maybe), and carrots.
I know that Potting Soil is a no-no in my Earthboxes, but what about in my raised beds? What's the dif?
Here's my sifted compost. Like brand new Folger's Coffee!
MG Potting MIX vs. MG Potting SOIL in a Raised Bed?
Why in the world would you want to plant MG anything with all that nice compost and kill all the beneficials in the compost with the chemicals in the MG soil?? I'd recommend soil from Living Earth Technologies which are all over the Houston area.
That's why I asked ^_^
Now. I'll go google Living Earth Tech to find a location. So, I should just get a general "potting soil" right?
carrots can get 'hairy' with too many nutrients.. or so goes my experience... just topsoil and compost is perfect.

Ok, Steph,
Living Earth recommends a blend of their Rose Soil + HCom (Horse Manure) for my veggie beds, @ $29/yard. I'll need 2 yards to fill my 72 sq. ft. of raised beds to 6", plus have enough to fill 15 eBuckets (each eBucket counts as 1 sq. ft.) to a depth of 12-15".
This is getting exciting.
Thanks for the tip!
Linda
That's probably a great price, too. There stuff is top notch. They've finally opened some places here on the Fort Worth side of the DFW metroplex and I'm so excited! We're going to get some for our fall beds in the coming days.
Steph,
You can get the special growing blend in that area. It's not available to me here in Houston. Especially mixed for veggie beds.
Keep me posted on what you end up with.
Linda
I think we'll do it next week as I'm off for half the week. I'll call them and see what they have and what they recommend. We need something, I can tell you that! LOL
