inactive chick

Langley, WA(Zone 7b)

One of my chickies has become really inactive. Just sits around like she's broody. Only 6 weeks old tho. She does get up and walk around from time to time but not nearly as active as the other 6 chickies. She's the black australorp. I can tell you she certainly sqawked up a storm when I picked her up to transfer here to the coop yesterday. She had started getting quiet like a day or two before I transferred them over.

Sometimes they just don't feel well and recover...but sometimes it is more serious. I would make sure she isn't picked on by the others and then watch for more definite symptoms. Maybe give them all a little ACV in their water (you have to do it slowly or they may stop drinking) or some natural yogurt?

The last time I went and checked, she was up and about. She still hasn't gone 'downstairs' (is the only one not to go down so far), but was definitely over there looking down the stairs and checking it all out.

I'll keep an eye on her tho. I can't separate her out today because I don't have extra waterers/feeders. I'll get some tomorrow so I'm prepared in the future if I have to give any extra care.

The chicks are funny. Half of them go over to the stairs and fall down the stairs. A couple just drop out of the opening and fall down. I think I have stunt chickens!

LOL I like it when they fly out and crash into the wall.. then walk around like the meant it. LOL

Hope the lil one is okay.

They're all testing their wings, since they have quite a bit more head space now. One of the BOs is a climber. She is always the one perched on top of the feeder or waterer. I'll have to put in some stuff for her to climb up on.

So far they have not learned to eat all my weeds. Very disappointing. The girls are going to have start earning their keep!

how are the kids doing?

Pretty good, ex for not using the roost. The quiet one has gotten back to 'normal' and joined back in with the others.

that's good.. i remember one of by silkies acting strange at around months old... returned to normal and I never figured out what it was all about.

puberty?

That'd be my guess....

How is she doing..

She's completely back to being one of the girls. Perhaps she just took longer to start adjusting to the new coop than the others, altho it seemed to me she had started the 'broody' behaviour a day or so before I even moved them. But she's out of it now completely.
