Disaster Preparedness for Animals

Sapello, NM(Zone 5b)

Do you have a plan for evacuating your animals in case of flood, forest fire, or approaching hurricane?

We've got a place lined up to take ours in an emergency. It's also our meet-up place, if we can't get back to the house. 9 years ago right here there was a forest fire and the whole highway was barricaded, no one was allowed in. A couple of folks hiked over the far hills and drove their animals out (you could leave, you just couldn't get in), but others had no choice but to hope their animals wouldn't be harmed by the dense smoke that filled the valley. Not to mention those whose places might burn...

It's best to have a plan and never use it.
here's a site with lots of info....
