I hope you guys can help me as I have no idea what the name of these cuttings are. The lady was really nice to send me the cuttings but she didnt name them and I emailed her asking and so far I have not heard? I know it is difficult to tell by a little cutting but I thought I would try the experts here. Thanks so much!

Looks like Hoya DS-70 to me.

I agree with Mike. And I sure hope those white spots are perlite, otherwise get out the spray alcohol and treat all of your cuttings Lynn.

I'll go with DS-70 on that one too ... looks just like mine. Scroll down this page and check out some of the pic's.

edited to say: If not DS-70, it might be H. incurvula: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/57675/

edited again to say: LOL, forget that last post about possibly being incurvula ... I was looking at the wrong photo ... this one definitely looks to be DS-70

Well thanks very much you guys for taking the time to help me out id'ing these cuttings. I think I will go with DS-70 (another name for it is Tsangii - hopefully I am correct there) Anyways inregards to the white spots - alcohol spray? Is that just straight rubbing alcohol in a sprayer? (sorry for my ignorance but I am totally new to hoyas) :0)

Hi golden,
No, tsangii is not the same plant as DS-70.
DS-70 has dark red flowers and H. tsangii has yellow flowers. DS-70 was called tsangii, incorrectly, for quite some time and I believe that DS-70 is just a "temporary" name until the plant's real identity can be determined. (I hope I have that correct!)

Ok well then I guess it must be tsangii - so with the list below - would it be safe to say tsangii?

Because the girl gave me a list of what was in the box - just not individually itemized

this was the list

Chang Mai
Logceandrewsiana
David cummingii
Amoena
Pachacladia
Lineraris
Tsangii
incurvula

I should have mentioned Lynn, that the "white spots" could be mealies and alcohol will kill them good and not harm the cuttings. If you touch one and it comes away sticky, its a mealie.

Mike, you have it right!

Golden,
No, the plant is not tsangii, it's DS-70. The gal you got the cuttings from had her plant mislabeled as tsangii. Please label your plant as Hoya DS-70 and also let the person that gave you the cuttings know that the plant is Hoya DS-70 and not tsangii.
HTH.

Christine,
Thanks for the confirmation! (:o)

Golden,
Also, "logceandrewsiana" s/b loyceandrewsiana.

All species names are always in lower case letters. Only the genus name is capitalized. Cultivar names are also capitalized and inside single quote marks like this: Hoya carnosa compacta 'Regalis'.

I believe that "Pachacladia" s/b pachyclada
"Lineraris" s/b linearis
"David cummingii" s/b davidcummingii (species name, so all lower case and all one word)

I just want to make sure that your hoyas are labeled correctly and so you will find info if you research the names on the net. If the species or cultivar name is mispelled, it makes it much more difficult to find (good) information.
Mike

Duh me, how did I miss that ... I'm so anal about my own ... I even keep an inventory that I regularly update and make notes on and if I find an accidentally capitalized or misspelled name I kick myself.

Thanks Mike!

I hear you, Christine! I am very anal about labeling my plants. I even have a spreadsheet that lists species, cultivar/ssp/var, name changes, price, purchased from, cutting or plant, date received, first flowering, comments, etc.

When I first looked at Golden's list, I didn't notice the incorrectly spelled names, but after looking at it a few times, it all-of-a-sudden hit me. (:o)
Thanks,
Mike

I'm impressed Mike ... I don't have the prices in mine ... lol

Ok Christine - DS-70 it is! Thanks you guys very much for all your help! Your great! Oh and by the way - those white specks - did not come away sticky - they either just fell off when I touched them or I picked them off? so what would they be in that case? I will get some alcohol and treat them.

Golden,
If they just flaked off then they were just small pieces of perilite and it's nothing to worry about. Perilite is a major component of most soil mixes.

Well, Christine, you're slacking, girl! Get with the program and get those prices on that inventory list! (:o)
Have a great weekend, everyone.
Mike

Okay Mike, I will add another column to my ever expanding and bloated spread sheet. I'll now have to go to 8-1/2 X 14" paper though....

urgggh...you mean I hafta learn how to do a spread sheet now??
^_^

Well, personally I avoid excel; it hates me, and the feeling is mutual. I do mine in word using tables.

You didn't get the memo, 3G's?

Yes, ideally, you should have all of your hoyas listed in an Access database on a server that we can all access, but an Excel spreadsheet or even a word document will suffice. (:o)
