Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

Look out all you Texans! This Arkie will be slipping across the stateline this Fri.to San Antonio w/ my DD and DGD to get DGD ready for college later this month and a job interveiw for DD. We'll be sightseeing at the Alamo and river walk for lunch and more rubber neckin"

Bring your hot weather clothes! LOL It's blistering hot here and DRY, especially down in San Antonio.

Tyler, TX

I love San Antonio. I heard the weather this morning for our area and it's supposed to be a little cooler this w/e, hopefully it will cool off there too. Have a great time.

Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

So we've heard. We'll dress as little/legally as allowed....LOL I'll take lots and lots of pictures.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Have fun Peggy, San Antonio is a beautiful town, I love the river walk.
Josephine.

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

Peggy, you got lucky on weather! On Friday the (NWS) predicted high for San Antonio will be down to 100°, Saturday a cooler 97°, Sunday 98°. There's even a slight chance of rain of rain! I never really take it seriously unless it's a 30% chance or greater myself. Mind if I ask what college she'll be at? Ah, college...sometimes I miss those days!

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi P! Y'all just be sure to bring your passports... and have a grand time!

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Be sure to hit the Market near Mi Tierra's Lots of pots and Mexican stuff for your garden.

Missouri City, TX

My favorite city in TX, maybe that's why I married a SA girl 40 years ago - lol.
We go back every year for our anniversary and stay at The Menger - right next door to the Alamo.
Have a fun weekend - there are so many things to do there.
We usually start at Dick's Last Resort - need a tall cool one after the drive, and love the fun that goes on there.

Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

We'll have teenagers in tow so only tall cool ones we'll be doing are sodas and tea..*S*
I want t do lunch down on the river walk, the Alamo and UTSA but where da heck are the nurseries for us plant nuts? Most specially...native plants.

I'll be taking loads of pix while there. Since my DD moving there,I'll get to go visit couple times a year(I hope).

pod...passport5....I'm swimmin' the river....LOL

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

Ummmm...don't take teens to Dick's......they'll never be the same! DD's bridesmaids dragged her there for party.....

Missouri City, TX

The teens will adore Dick's. They have plenty of soft drinks, and the food is good - not GREAT - but good.
They do lots of crazy things there - I don't want to give it all away.

There is a arboritum in Alamo Heights - plan on spending some time if you go - both indoor and outdoor plants - HUGE place.

Hate to put down another restaurant, but Casa Rio leaves a lot to be desired - there are MUCH better Tex-Mex places on the River Walk.

Swimming in the river would be a hoot - you can walk across - it's shallow, but would be arrested instantly.

BB, you obviously know what I mean - LOL - teens might seem like 2 year olds again.

On nurseries, Antique Rose Emporium, Shades of Green and Rainbow Gardens Nursery are in the city. There are no native plant nurseries as such, but there are some natives in those. The closest really native plant nurseries are Natives of Texas near Kerrville or Medina Garden Nursery in the town of Medina (between Bandera and Kerrville). Both of them are just great!

I knew Linda would come to the rescue, she is very good with native plants and lives in the area.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Shades of Green on Sunset in Alamo Heights has a lot of natives and other goodies. Also, you can find natives at Millberger's out on Loop 1604

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

I like Rainbow Gardens on Bandera Road (Hwy 16) the best for natives. It's about half way between Loop 410 and Loop 1604.

Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

Well...I'm back and I can diffenantly that taking in the sight is NOT a one day event. I'll have to go back once DD gets moved and settled in to go back for a week....then probably still won't be enough time.

I took pictures but ...shame on me,about half were of flowers....LOL Some I know....some I'll have to post for id.

We ate at a Mex. Rest but I forgot to note the name. I ordered a Taco Ensalda Grande when they brought it too I thought they had killed half the chickens in the coop and totaly wiped out the kitchen garden...That thing was beyond HUGE....LOL

We made the trip sightseeing included in 24 hrs almost to the minute and i NEVER want to do that agin. I'm still pooped.

Oh lordy! Never turn to 18 yr old girls loose in a 3 story mall...takes forever to herd them back out.

Sounds like you had a good time even though it was a quick trip. Where is she going to school?

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

P ~ ya need to slow down and enjoy life! Lord have mercy... 24 hours? Did that include swimmin' the river...LOL

Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

She will be going to UTSA

DD had a voice mail Sat. from another party that wants to interveiw her for another job so we may will be headed back sooner than we thought.

If I were her Mom, I'd be job shopping too. Wouldn't want that pretty young lady going off on her own anytime soon! Wishing Mom luck with her job search.

I do hope you get to slow down long enough to tour the nurseries at your leisure but that may have to wait till they get moved.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

My cousin has been teaching at UTSA in the writing lab for the past year or so. Funny that you would travel to go to school at UTSA. I think of it as a "local college". LOL She's close to a lot of attractions and great shopping!

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

Yes, La Cantera and the Rim have just been added in recent years. I think many of the students would really like to see a grocery store that's convenient to UTSA, however. I understand that the student parking problem has gotten much much worse since the last time I was there.

Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

We slipped in to see the Rim....first we took the wrong turn and got a quick look at SA Six Flag trying to get back out....LOL

I pretty much talked DD into going ahead and renting an apt. so Laiken can go ahead of them if DD doesn't get before DGD has to start school.

Here one of the flowers I need an ID on.
