Can you save partially used cake mix?

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

OK kitchen mavens, I need your help. The other day DH and I had the worst craving for orange cake. Got a mix, made it, gorged ourselves til we couldn't eat any more and there was still 1/2 pan left. After a couple of days it remained uneanten, so we dumped it.

We have done this twice and realize this is a terrible waste. Can the unused part be saved? pantry or frozen? I thought about baking in two pans and freezing one pan but I HATE the taste of frozen cake. I can always tell. Your suggestions will be appreciated.

PS: If you're wondering why an eternal dieter is eating orange cake, I dunno. I'll blame it on the heat, lol.
