There are so many fires blazing here in BC. After watching the news last night, and seeing people with their vans and cars packed up ready to leave at a moment's notice, I wondered what kinds of things would people pack as long as they had some time to do it??
The first things that came to mind for me were pictures, scrapbooks, medicines, and hubby's CPAP machine.
Anyone else like to give us their ideas?
It would be unlikely that we would have a forest fire here, but we ARE surrounded by large cedar and fir trees, so there is that possibility. It makes you stop and think.

Forest Fires
we smelled smoke the other evening and got to wondering what we'd pack.
all the photos and the hard drives/usb/memory sticks etc.
health records for us and the rotten dawg
meds and a few changes of undies.

Hmmmm, it's smokey and a little stinky in our valley. Not doubt from the fire that is still burning in the Okanagan.
I would definitley try and take photos/albums, pets, food for pets, portable files, clothes for a few days, toiletries, meds, laptop and of course wallets. Gosh, I hope we never have to do it! All my roses...sigh
Yes, it's certainly not something that we like to think about, but seeing it on the news, and the people talking about having to leave very quickly if needed, just got me thinking about it. I don't have pets, but yes, food for the pets, and possibly some water, would be a good idea.
DH also wondered if you lost all your income tax papers, what would Revenue Canada do about that??
Plan what you are doing with your valuables, like jewelery, and if you don't take it with you, at least hide it where looters won't find it. Take your birth certificates, passports etc. I'd make a list of stuff and where it is, or keep it packed and ready if things look threatening.
Thinking of all of you in BC, and hoping you are never in harms way.
Thanks Echoes. We actually talked today about making a list that would be ready at hand, and that would make things so much quicker. I will be starting a list with some of these ideas. I hadn't even thought of the passport!!!
True, I was thinking all the other stuff is in my wallet, but we keep the passports in the car glove box for quick trips over the border. But of course we would be driving... eeeeuuww, what a thought!
If you have pets put dog/cat crates on the list along with supplies of food, water .
Birds I guess you they would be in cages anyway so you could take them out without haveing to handle them
