This is one of the best I've seen.......had to share
Red Beans - Too cool
Is this one yours, it looks gorgeous, have you used any hib fertilizer on it, leaves look like the leaves need a little nourishment or is it the heat wave causing signs of leaf drop, ether way its outstanding.

Yes this is one I ordered from the Dupont Hibiscus coop earlier this year. The petal growth on the stamen was unique. Only one bloom that has had that, then again haven't had many blooms as they were small 4 inch starters in April.
Various fertilizers, nothing special. Tried epsom salt, ironite and and an occasional foliar feed. Yes some of them are a bit chlorotic, been trying to get them green and healthy.
hey Chuck, great photo, I'm a big Red Beans & Rice fan, now I'm curious about the leaves myself. Will they brighten back up or will you need to pinch the leaves off of those? I can never decide what to do. Do you let them stay on as you try to improve their health? Any advice is appreciated, thanks.
This is a beauty.
I get the yellow leaves from time to time but think it is normal. My problem is mine are growing lanky and I need to pinch back or prune them. Hate doing this but know it is best for the plants. I can not throw the trimmings away as I want to try rooting them. Epsom salt does help green them up but you still get yellowing on the larger larger leaves. Still waiting on File Gumbo, Red Beans & Rice and a few others to give me my first bloom.
davis1676,
IMHO, it best to not pick those leaves. Regardless of the weak or chlorotic nature, they at least provide nutrients for the plant, and more leaves for foliar feeding is better. I am trying right now, along with soil ferts.
Part of the problem may be is that they are under a dogwood I planted last year that has jumped out of its skin this year. So depletion may be to blame. Some of the plants further away are not affected.
Just beautiful. Makes me want one. I'll have to eat Red Beans & Rice in order to have the money to buy everything I want. And, they are making new ones everyday! It is a good incentive to have a 'want list' in life. Never get bored!
