Every year I see a similar insect near my flower bed and at the edges of the mulch around the house. Is this a variety of the same thing?

May be you could post this picture on the Bug Identification forum. Am sure people will notice it there better, than here. I don't know if that belongs to the same group.

The bug-ID forum is well hidden. That's why I posted here. It was the most prominent bug forum. But I was puzzled that only admins could start threads. Do you have to be an entomologist to do that? After looking, I found BugFiles How-to's.

I'm sorry I meant the "Insect and Spider identification" forum. I should have been precise in the first instance. You can make the posting there by starting the thread. Once identified properly and after your satisfaction, you can add it to Bug Files.
