Another Nameless Hardy

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

This does look like the one jljo posted on the 23rd. This picture was made 6-29-09. And I had to prop up the branches as one had 13 buds. Had it 4 years & didn't even think about keeping the tag that came with it. Duh!!!!

I think it is Texas Star. A DG friend is sending me seed and it looks like that. If you have extra seed, I would trade you some for a white hardy.

Texas star looks like it has (marjuna(sp) leaves. I know, my do good neighbor sent the shrieff to check out mine.
They grow 7-8 feet tall, and each bloom is star shaped. Mike
These are babbies, try for a pic of bloom

How sweet of the neighbor! ;) What did the sheriff say?

Danielsville, GA(Zone 7b)

I think the sheriff had a handle on her, and just passified her. Saturday the same lady called me about a poisonious snake in her yard.DW told her I was flat on my back with pain.So she called the vol. fire dept., and they came out to the resque, and found a dumby snake that her son had for the blueberry bushes. The Lady is Wacky!!! She hears things, sees naked men running around, and afraid of her shadow. Mike

Thanks, Mike. Sorry, skwinter, I do not have any seed. I'm reading up on this stuff & hope to get seed eventually. Would gladly share if I had them.

I am so glad that I am not the only one to have police stop to check out the Hib... I have one in a barrel right by the dirt road and the drive way - I see police officers stop about once or twice a year to 'check it out'...

Here is something funny about Texas Star's. I have white and red at our local market. I can have benches of the tropical hybrids full of blooms there.

Here is where it gets good.
It never fails the plant that pulls them in the most is the texas star. The beautiful 8" blooms are completely bypassed with the tunnel vision on the plant that looks like weed (LOL) then they ask what it is and I tell them, Then they say that it looks like marjuna and the final thing that really gets me is that they follow up by usually saying that they have never seen it but just thought that it looked like it. Can you figure this one out? LOL

I have had the police called on me several times LOL
The funniest thing I can recall is we had loaded the trailer to come home from market, It has a open back on it with a cover. Well, we are going down the highway at about 65 and everyone passing me is basically slowing down as they come up on me. We are getting really weird looks as they pass and some even laughing. Well, I notice in the rearview a shadow from 1 of the huge texas stars that had fallen over and was hanging off the back of the trailer between the cover and the wood. All of the plant was out of the trailer except the pot holding it in. I guess we were driving for a good 30 miles like this. LOL Maybe have been a little embarrassing but I was LMAO!

Robert, If you could imagine how GOOD this woman is , you would wonder how she knew it looked suspesious.
This woman sits in her living room with the drapes open, and READS her Bible every morning, for the world to see.OOH!!! Mike

Hi Mike,

LOL I gotcha. I wonder as well with some of the people that have the tunnel vision over here. Looks like it but of course the follow up of having never seen it. Last time my buddies from the local's came by and did a cannabis test on them I finally told them jokingly "Now that you know its not weed and I dont have any here growing, I guess I need to start growing it" I only said it because I knew the officer that came by. He jokingly said might as well. LOL All of this because a nosey neighbor turned me in. LOL kinda like your situation.....I really wish they would mind their own business. I have about 1000 white tx star seeds I am thinking about throwing down the fence line. LOL Could be interesting to say the least!!!

I have both white, and red growing. Somebody please tell me this: why are the red seed more viable than the white?I planted same number of whites, as I did red, and most all the red germinated, and only about 10% of the white did. Go figure. Maybe someone knows I wanted more whites. Whites are more interested IMHO
Mike

BTW My GOOD Neighbor, who does not even have a peice of dirt on them, shovel their dog mess over the fence into my yard. My place is a natural area, but I would prefer my own fertilize.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

tip for the criminally minded: Grow you some pot, go to the market and sell it as TX Star hibbie.

mq, no answer to your question for white is harder to grow, period. I'm on my 2nd plant, killed the first.

Nederland, TX(Zone 9a)

LOL Nery!!!

Emerald Hills, CA(Zone 9b)

having grown up in the 70's I can honestly say I HAVE seen weed. I wonder whether the 'fraudulent' TX star would pass the sniff test :-)

Nederland, TX(Zone 9a)

dunno never really thought about it. I'll ask one of my market stoners if they have ever tried it LOL

Nederland, TX(Zone 9a)

BTW Mike,

My white texas star's grow better from cutting and rooting than seeds. I have no Idea why. Just another tidbit they also bloom much quicker. I have blooms in 4" pots. Give this a try. Maybe it will help. I even had 4" pots come back after the winter. To top that I actually had 1/2 tray that I stuck and never potted them up. Basically wrote them off. Most of those came back in the root cubes. Who would have known. I did not expect it.

shame shame Robert! LOL I had to laugh when I read that.

The foliage of the TX Star always makes me think of marijuana when I see them at nurseries.

I thoroughly enjoyed planting the Anne Arundel hibby in full view of my nosy neighbors deck. Nice foliage. ;)

That would be very effictetive, until it blooms! However my neighbor wouldn't know the difference. My neighbor trully can't see the forest for the trees. Mike

Very true, but it was fun while it lasted. They sure thought it was a 'interesting' plant for a while.
