Finally got another bloom from Lowe's Painted Lady & you said you wanted to see it. It was 7". Not sure what it is but I do like it really well. Will post another picture with a side view. Keep looking at everyone's gorgeous flowers & trying to find out something about my "orphan". Sometimes they will put the grower on the tags but there is nothing on this one. I've already got my money's worth of enjoyment & I reckon that is what is important. Thanks for your help.
Judy
Just for you Wilfred
That sure is pretty!
Darla
I think so too, looks kinda silvery in that picture. Nice!
Judy what you have there is one beautiful flower! I'll trade you my Painted Lady for it any day! :-)
dee
Thanks, everyone. Yes, it does have a silvery-pale orchid color. When I bought it there was a lot of pink & I thought it was prettier.....but I favor pink flowers. The next bud has a lot of reddish tone to it. Will post it after it opens. That first yellow one of yours Darla is gorgeous. Have the red & yellow & I love it.
Judy
Hi Judy, looking at to photos it sure looks a lot like "Blue Cajun", the first bloom looks probably Pinkish do to some type of chemical they might have used or weather or even fertilizer not suited for hibs. maybe some of my friends here on the forum can help if I'm wrong on this, anyone's comments is appreciated.
Hi Darla, sure am glad the hibs I sent you are blooming so nicely for you, hope you enjoy them for a very long time.
Wilfred
"Blue Cajun"
I thought Blue Cajun too or maybe Tylene
Hi Dee, Thanks, Hey Dee the first cutting I did for you of my seedling "The Cross" failed but I already planted another cutting for you as well as some others of my seedling. I'm trying something new as when to cut and plant cutting goes, My older cousin came for a visit this weekend and she has taken a course on the island that deals with propagation according to the moon fazes when planting. According to what she told me is that you should cut and plant cutting on the fourth quarter moon faze and that this produces much better results on the cutting to root, I really don't know how true this is but this peoples have been doing this for generation with a lot of success so I'm going to give it a try and see if it works for me, and before I forget they also said any Fridays is also a good day to do it. On Friday the 14, August is a quarter moon faze, so I am planing to plant some cutting on that date to see if it work or not, you should try it to see if you get better result also, it wouldn't hurt to try, who know, It miet really work.
Wilfred
That's interesting Wilfred. Are you supposed to cut on the 1/4 moon and then if you are sending wood to someone, they are supposed to plant on the next 1/4 moon? If this works, I'll have to get a calendar marked up for when it's time to start pruning. If I'm going to send cuttings to anyone I want to make sure they have the best chance of making it. Olja said something about using some kind of wax to cover the ends...is that right?
I'm waiting patiently for your gift :-)
Dee, I am so anxious for them to root so I can send them to you so you can enjoy them also like I have, just imagining that something you have created has gone so far a distance for someone else to enjoy has such a nice feeling to it. Olja did say something about the wax to cover the end to help avoid them from drying out, I imagine it could be regular candle wax.
Wilfred
BTW, Thanks for the D-mail, haven't answered it yet but will in time, again, thank you for caring.
I'd heard about the wax too & saw a video on the AHS site with a member using candle wax. He said it wasn't necessary (in his opinion) to use bees wax, candle wax being much less expensive. BUT I've heard of using elmers glue on rose cuttings & wonder if that might work for hibiscus too? (just an easier option vs melting wax, etc.) Just wondering.
My God Dave they all so similar, hard to tell which is it, Dee do you have a photo of "Tylene" I don't remember what it looks like, I was looking to the edge of the petals to see if it had a little grayish like the one Judy posted, resembles the grayish on the "Blue Cajun" and it does, but your "Pete's Blue" Dave, also does have it too. Now this is a little confusing I Think.
Wilfred
"Blue Cajun"
Just notice the way the petal wind on the hib Judy posted, and it looks more like the one Dave's posted "Pete's Blue" , I think Dave hit it on the spot. Thanks Dave for helping Judy Identify her hib.
Wilfred
Thanks Dave, I think it is Pete's Blue. Yours has the same tinge on edge of the petals...sort of a khaki color & pink in the center. And, the petals aren't smooth. Don't know yet what they call it but they look crinkly. Can't wait to see the new flower open tomorrow. If anyone has Tylene please post a pic. Wilfred please tell us more about the 4th moon cut faze. I trimmed some today cause yesterdays storm blew them over again!
Just NOIDs that I have had for 4-5 years that have never been trimmed. Really like your Blue Cajun. Y'all are so bad....making me want all these beautiful plants & I know they have to go in the GH which was way too crowded last year. Oh, well, I manage somehow but a lot of things will get trimmed! Thanks again, everyone!
Judy
here are a couple of links to pages with photos of Tylene but I'd go with the opinion of someone who actually has one...a parent would recognize his baby :-)
