This bloomed today. Just a tinge of pink on white but a nice big flower. Sorry the picture isn't better.

Hope you discover the name for this. My sis had one in a pot someone had given
to her & she never got it planted, so she gave it to me. Took me close to a year
to plant it & it bloomed this year.

The 2nd or 3rd round there is much more of the pink throughtout the bloom. Certainly is pretty.

My father gave me the root 18 years ago. He got is as a bonus from Burpee. I moved a portion 8 years ago when we moved and every year it has out done itself. I have seed coming out of my ears. To bad I do not know how to grow the seed...

I went to DG search and searched hardy hibiscus and they came up with a large variety of named hardies.. Your hardy has a cast of pink on the end of the bloom and mine does not. They seem to love the Las Vegas heat and the cold but barely freezing winters. I do have it protected from the wind in partial shade but very hot area of the landscape. In Florida they call them hurricanes, in Las Vegas they call them high winds. Any expertise you have on propagating or seed germination will be greatly appreciated. Come to Las Vegas, you will not believe the prices. Fire sale on room, food and beverage. We are retired and if we were not going to Hawaii on a preplanned, prepaid trip from a year ago, We would be going down to the strip. A stay at home vacation just down the street about 20 miles.

Start a new thread with your picture & ask about getting seeds. Bet you will get an answer that way. I have only had a seed pod one time & sent it to a friend & I wish I had kept some & tried them myself. Don't know how that happened! I'm still learning & this is a great place to do that cause there are so many nice people willing to help. Think you will have to pollinate these yourself. Going to try it the next time I have 2 different ones bloom at the same time. Will let you know if it works.

skwinter,

Growing hardy hibiscus from seed is pretty easy.. I used the winter sowing method..

Kathy Jo, explain this method please. Not that I have any seed but hope to someday.

I used the winter sowing method using milk jugs... popped holes in the bottom, cut a circle around the center of the jug ( this doesn't have to be fancy ) and popped holes in the top... Left it outside all winter. The babies will just pop up..

Or put the seeds in a container with a moist paper towel in the frig... They need to be cold stratified.. Then in the spring put them somewhere where they can germinate..

I was a little overwhelmed with about a hundred babies... But, some of them didn't make it.. I think I have about 20 adult hardy hibiscus out of those..

I didn't get blooms until the second year ( this year ).. I have gotten white with a dark pink center, dark pink with darker pink veining, scarlet, light pink... anyway you get the idea.. just fun...

If I get seeds I will be more than happy to share... Just don't have them to offer yet... anyone interested can Dmail me later in the year..
