Hi All!
I'm growing two types of eggplants for the very first time: Beatrice and Black Beauty.
Beatrice has got this white, fuzzy stuff growing on all her leaves. She's healthy otherwise, full of bright lavender blooms, and is about to throw her second set of fruit.
Before she threw her first set of eggplant, I noticed mealybug invasion. So, I washed every leaf with a bucketful of soapy water (Lemon Ajax) and a good rinse. As I rinsed her off, I noticed there was a velvety fuzz that had covered her leaves that also rinsed away, leaving the leaves smooth. Could that velvety fuzz have been a part of her makeup (no pun intended), and could that be what's growing back?
Sure hope so, cause I don't know what to do for powdery mildew.
Beatrice is a looker!
If it's powdery mildew, what do I DEW?
Linda
WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH BEATRICE?
You can spray the plant with a milk/water combo every other day for several days (until it's gone). You can use any kind of milk you have for this.
Hey, Steph!
Is it powdery mildew?
You mean I gotta share my milk with Beatrice? I'm one 'a the few adults I know who still drinks milk on a DAILY basis.
I would rather lick the freeway than put powdered creamer in my morning cup of coffee! And I GOTTA have my morning coffee.
It's war in my house if the DH forgets to get the milk for my morning coffee (the only food-related task I ask of him is that he be responsible for keeping milk in the fridge and securing sodas/beverages/beer and ice when company is coming...is that too hard a task?)
I'm gonna have to see if Beatrice is lactose tolerant!
I drink a BIG glass of COLD milk every morning! My day's just not complete without my milk!!
Have you found out if she's lactose intolerant?
Steph,
I don't think anything is wrong with Beatrice. The fuzz has grown over the entire plant, and Beatrice is fine. I believe she's supposed to be like that.
It's the same fuzz that rinsed off when I washed her with soapy water and Lemon Ajax to get rid of the mealybugs.
