I have just gotten my first eggs. They are very small. I believe they are from my Brahma. Very small and cute. Are they OK to eat? And what is the procedure for cleaning them? Do I wash them right away? Or wait until I want to eat one? I have been putting them in the refrigerator. Will they lay bigger eggs as time goes on?
First eggs!
Congrat to you: Generally I just wipe them with a damp cloth, if they are really dirty a light going over with a small scrub brush. Most of my eggs are never dirty and most go into the carton and never have to be cleaned at all. Yes by all means, eat and enjoy what your girls provide for you. And yes they will get bigger as time goes on. Isn't it great to go out and find your very first eggs! We celebrate with you here at Daves Garden and others will be along tomorrow. Have fun. Haystack
congratulations! rinse them i( you don't want a poopy eggshell to land in your breakfast) and enjoy your fried eggs!
I don't know your breed, but my sexlink and buff eggs did get a little larger.. the sexlinks are huge!
enjoy.. you are now officially hooked.
I rinse with warm water. Rinsing with warm water prevents the pores in the egg shell from taking in nasty things, whereas cold water does not have that benefit. I also use a small scrub brush for any that get nasty (usually my duck eggs because the ducks have big messy feet.
The brahma eggs are usually quite large so I would say they should get bigger for sure.
Congrats!! I do like Moxon, if I have a lot, I put them in a collander and use the sink sprayer if I need to.
Congrats on your eggs. Enjoy!
