I was wondering if any of you folk that watch your native birds ever go to other countries to watch birds. Many people do come to South Africa to see our birds. I live in what is known at the highveld - somewhat dry in winter with summer rainfall. A new quick look pullout pamphlet has been designed by the bird society that enumerate over 200 birds in an around our highveld cities. Down in the lowveld there are very many cranes that nest there in summer. We also have the largest flock of lessor flamingoes on a man made lake (well sort of man made) .
I guess I see 40 different birds every day very locally.
Serious Bird Watching
No, Keriblu, I've never been to another country to watch birds but would love to be able to some day. I can vicariously birdwatch in other countries through forums such as this though.
I've been birding to several countries. South Africa would be nice, but I'd not be able to afford it (and if I did have the money, with my mainly cool temperate zone interests, there's places in Asia that would be higher on my 'wants' list).

PS Welcome to the forum! Do tell us all about the birds you see!
Hi Keriblu, Welcome to the forum!!
Hi Keriblu, I don't think I'll ever make it to your area, but I'd love to see photos of your birds.
I am not really much of a bird watcher. I do take note of those I see around my home area. Our local birds are fairly plain to look at, specially in winter as we are in now. I will try to photograph the Pin Tailed Whydah which I know visits a friends bird feeder. These are very tiny birds with long breeding tails. They have quite a hareem and at bird feeders chase other birds away.
I am a bit of a new photographer with a new very nice camera. See what I can do.
I would love to see pictures of the birds of your area, they may be the same old boring things to you, but would be new and exotic to me... That's one of the things that I do so love about this site; the vicarious birdwatching. I may never get to your country, but I do enjoy your sharing of your pictures.
