We was wondering about you haven't seen you on here in awhile. Hope all is well.
And I hope you can get some of the hibiscus from Randy and Annelle, really nice people to do business with.
God Bless you and your family also.

My beauties came today & I am so VERY PLEASED. The plants are much bigger than I had thought they would be. Came in 4" pots & the potting mix was still damp when they got here with no broken branches or damage. Was really worried because of our Tx heat but that was not a problem. (Of course, I have stayed home everyday just waiting on my new babies.) I would definitely order from them again & if I had room in my GH I would place another order today. I'm going to put them in the shade for a couple of days since they have been in the dark & then put them in larger pots. Wish I could put them in the ground but y'all know the old saying, "Wish in one hand & spit in the other & see which gets full first." The packing was fantastic too. Do not be afraid to try these people. Thanks so much, Patrick, for the link to this sale.
YOur welcome tricki, we order from them alot, they are the nicest people, and their plants are well worth the money spent. we have 11 coming today. and we have more ordered to pick up when we go to FL in Nov.
Patrick
You must have a big GH Patrick. ??? I'm thinking what I can whittle down in order to have more room. I know the Brugs have outgrown my 10x12 GH but I've been reading about what to do about them. Definitely will not waste space on Datura this year. If I just didn't like so many different things! It will work out. But the Hibs will have the best seats in the house. Really trying to see how I can buy more! Thanks again, this has just really made my day.
Judy
we don't have a GH yet. we bring them in the house to overwinter them for now. we transform the dining room into a green house, this year we are overwintering all the hibs, and the coleus we have. and a few other plants. we are hoping to be in south Florida in the next year or 2.
Your welcome on the site, like I said we have bought alot from them and we are always pleased with what we receive.
Patrick
Just out of curiosity (not like I need more plants! LOL), what approximately does S/H run for them? I tried finding it on the site, but didn't see anything. Just want to get some idea should I decide to add a few more to my landscape. :)
Also, if there are any that are semi-shade lovers you all might recommend, I'd be most appreciative! I have some space up front where I'd love to add some floral color for the summer, and I have NO luck with Azaleas for some reason.
for the 11 hibiscus that we just received the handling charge is 2.50, and the shipping charge was 10.13 for Fed Ex and we are in western side of Ohio.
Is that for the entire order, or per plant? If it's the entire order, that IS a great bargain, and I will definitely place an order.
(Just don't tell my husband!)
that was the shipping costs for the entire order. they are packed well also. the plants are nice sized and healthy.
( we won't tell) LOL
I only have two hibiscus plants in the ground (other is in the pond), and this is my first year having them return for me, so I don't know too much about them in terms of when to plant, etc. Do they do ok in full sun? Would I be okay planting them this fall, or should I wait until next Spring and keep them in the greenhouse over winter?
jlj I think your Hibs are the hardy type which you can plant in the ground. And, yours are beautiful!!! These are tropical & we are in the same zone & they have to go in the GH during the winter. I'd give anything if we could plant them in the ground as they do so much better but too much work to plant & dig up, etc. Noticed another person in my zone just plants them in the ground & buys new ones the next summer. I have had NOID Hibs until recently & even those went in the GH. I know these babies will have choice spots this year. These are such nice plants, the packing is great & the shipping very reasonable.
Judy
(Whispers... Don't tell my husband, but I just placed an order for 6 of them.)
With everything else I have in my yard, he'll probably never know! :)
jlj, let us know when your Hibs arrive. Fair warning....you are going to have a good size box & a LOT of paper packing to hide from hubby. They pack so well those babies don't have a chance to move around & get broken.
Judy
I participated in a focus group last night pertaining to Nascar (imagine that, getting paid to talk for 2 hours about something you love! LOL). During the discussions, I kept hearing these guys say, "Well, I'd like to go to another race, if my wife/girlfriend/etc. will let me." And I got to thinking, I'm sure glad my husband doesn't tell me I can't do this, or I can't go here, or I can't enjoy something I love. And I got to thinking about my impending arrival of baby hibiscus plants, and thought, to heck with it. I'm getting a great deal on something I love that makes me happy, and I didn't have to forego a meal, paying a bill, or clothing to buy it, so why should I feel guilty? He has as much chrome on his Harley as I have plants in my yard, so I say we're even-steven! :-)
LOL! DH and I both have our hobbies and we each spend on them. Although I have to admit I've been spending more than he has recently!
Darla
That reminds me of the time I returned from a Doll Convention & my late DH had a 1954 Jaguar XK 120 Jaguar convertible parked in the driveway. It was 2 AM & all I asked was, "Could I drive it?" Meaning was it stick shift or automatic. And when he said, "No" I asked, "Why"? And he said, "Cause it's not running." I had my toys (antique dolls) & he had his. You have to enjoy life every chance you get & digging in the dirt is soooo much fun for me. I just worry about the small things.....how much can I get in the GH this winter?
Or, will I ever get seeds from my Hibs or Brugs? Will it ever rain again? Cause if money will fix your problems you really don't have any. Its good that you both have something that makes you happy.
Judy
Plus if anyone has a husband that golfs like mine...even-steven doesn't begin to cover it :-)

My DH was into kites and recumbent bikes. Now he's in so much pain he can't do either. Hopefully someday they can fix most of his problems. Both of those are expensive!
Darla
Your husband has real problems, Darla. Hope there is something they can do for him. What is a recumbent bike? Tell him I will keep him in my thoughts & prayers & I hope he can get relief for the pain.
Judy
A recumbent bike is like sitting in a chair with your feet out in front of you. Here is one site to look at them

Darla
The good news is, guess what arrived today! :-) My 6 new hibiscus plants!
The bad news is, one of them had a main stem/trunk broken when I took it out of the packaging paper. Will it rebound over time, or is this a death sentence for it? :-( It looks like it might happened when it was wrapped in the paper, as it was otherwise well packaged/braced in the box, and the box didn't have any visible damage.
Why don't you contact Randy at Tried and True and see what he says.

I agree, I would definitely contact Tried & True--they may be confident that it'll come back and ask you to wait and give it a chance before they send you a replacement, but it's always best to let vendors know right away about problems like that which happened during shipping.
Agree with the others. Send your picture to the seller.
Darla, thanks for the article on the recumbent bike. Looks like fun.
Judy
I did email Randy a picture last night before I posted this. He also replied last night (after I'd gone to bed) and offered to replace the plant, as he said it would not survive given the location of the break. I'm not upset with the vendor at all, and would not discourage anyone from purchasing from them as a result of this one thing -- accidents do happen. And I would order from him again, given he clearly cares about his customers (unlike some vendors who forget about you once they have payment in hand). I know from reading the feedback from others they are a good company, and this sort of thing does not happen often with them. It was probably just an accident with the packaging of that one particular plant. I just wish it could be saved, as I hate to see a baby die. I thought that perhaps with the broken piece removed, and some TLC, the plant might regrow over time, but based on his email, that is likely not the case. :-(
The rest of the plants look healthy and are in great shape. FedEx delivered them around 7:30 last night, so I carefully unpacked them and put them in what will be a shady spot for them today. Our temps (which have been up to nearly 100 with high humidity in the last 5 days) are finally dipping down to the 80s, so I'm hoping that will aid in a smooth transition for them. I guess this means I should go pot shopping this weekend so my new babies will have a home to move into once they are adjusted.
Definitely sounds like they're handling the situation the right way. I'm with you, I would never fault a vendor for occasional shipping damage--that's something that's going to happen sometimes no matter how careful they are. To me, it's all about how they handle the situation when you let them know about the damage--if they promptly replace it or refund your money then I'd give them a thumbs up.
They get a strong thumbs up from me also. You can't make another cut higher up & try to root the plant? I'm new to this so that may be a dumb suggestion. Just hate to throw out a baby. Which Hib was it?
Judy
From the photo, it looks like the break may have happened at the graft. If that is the case, the rooted portion will probably survive but you will be growing a root stock plant and not the CV you ordered. Might still be worth saving :-)
d
The one that was damaged was a Night Runner. I don't know much about trying to root the rest of the plant, but if someone has suggestions, I'm willing to try anything. I have rooting hormone at home, but have yet to use it.
Also, I wasn't sure if Randy would want me to send it back, so I will wait to see when I get home and check my email what he says.
