Ballerina Apples

Franklin, NC(Zone 6b)

Have any of you seen a series of upright, dwarf apples known as 'Ballerina' in the United States? I spent the afternoon looking for sources, but they were all in Australia, New Zealand and the UK.

No takers?

Ag, If you can't find them, how do you expect us to. Several nurseries in the US do sell columnar apple trees, but I have not seen any of the cultivars that were released in the Ballerina series ie Charlotte, Polka, Flamenco, Waltz, Bolero.

I'm always hoping someone out there might know something that Google doesn't tell me. Google's good, but sometimes it just can't replace a knowledgable DGer. Case in point, I didn't know that there were other columnar types being sold in the US, so off I go in what will likely be a much more productive search. Thank you!

Good call Agrinerd.
I cant find many plants on Google but I can get them through Daves or word of mouth. In fact, it happened just the other day.

Found 'em! They aren't Ballerinas, but there appear to be three columnar varieties available in the States. Most of the oversea nurseries I contacted said that they don't ship to the US because of shipping and certification costs, except for one that would ship if I ordered a hundred or more. One said that Ballerinas are becoming quite popular in New Zealand. If anyone's interested, here are brief descriptions of three columnar apples available in the US.

• ‘Northpole’ will remind you of a McIntosh apple.
• ‘Golden Sentinel’ is similar to Golden delicious in flavor.
• ‘Scarlet Sentinel’ produces green-yellow apples with a red blush.

Ag, here are four others which are usually listed under colonnade rather than columnar. Looks like each group has a different name.
Crimson Spire: tart sweet red apple with white flesh
'Emerald Spire', mellow, sweet green apple with gold blush
Scarlet Spire', juicy red-and-green eating apple
'Ultra Spire', tart, tangy red apple with a yellowish blush (trees are more compact than the other varieties).

This is great, thanks! I searched for "columnar apples" and never saw the 'Colonades'.
