I'm looking for volunteers who might like to spend a Saturday morning with me helping some young teens build an honor garden at the Summerville National Guard Armory. This is going to be on Sept. 12th.
If you are interested in assisting with the planning, or coming out on the day to help in this community service project, or you'd just like to know more about it, please D-mail me!
Thanks!
Deb
Summerville, SC & Dorchester county area gardeners
I'm available .. just let me know when and where as it gets closer.

That's great, X! I'll keep you posted.
Thanks!
Hey Deb,
I think I'm available that day. Keep me posted. And if you need help before just let me know.
Amy
Thanks, Amy!
We're working on it like mad right now, but it's still a go for the morning of the 12th. Probably from 9 to 2, with the last hour being lunch. :)
It's going to be at the new National Guard facility on Hwy. 78 and boy do they need some "beautification" there.
Right now, I'm waiting for a call back from a lady at Clemson Ext. who is getting us a local master gardener to take a look at the site and give me a little "technical assist".
Soon as I get to that step, I'll let you guys know what's what.
Really appreciate your interest in helping!
I'm meeting my "consulting" Master Gardener this Tuesday at the site.
The kids held a carwash on Friday to raise money for the garden and it was pretty successful.
I think we've got a donation of two beautiful Adirondak chairs.
Will let you know more details as we get there. :)

Ok! Looking forward to it.

OK! We have just about got all the arrangements done for the big day, which is a week from this Sat.!
We've gotten some plants donated, and have everything else, including a bench and a plaque. I'm still trying to come up with a few more plants. If anyone knows of a person or business who might be so inclined,....please let me know. Here's what we still need from our wish list:
3 switchgrass, 9 sweetgrass, 5 Emerald Giant Liriope, 12-15 any drought tolerant grass that's about the size of giant Liriope but can take afternoon sun, 5 -7 red Knockout Roses, and...finally, 3 yellow Lantana (well, any Lantana - we're not picky). :)
If you want to join us, we are meeting at the armory at 9am on the morning of the Sept. 12th. It's on Hwy 78, north of Summerville, almost to Jedburg. It's on the right about 150 yds past the Pepsi plant, but before the intersection at Jedburg Rd.
Dmail me and I can give you my cell number in case you need it on the day!
Deb
I'll be there .. do I need to bring anything like a shovel or bucket?
X
Deb, if you still need the giant Lirope, I have some and could mail it to you. Not sure of the variety, Big John sticks in my mind but that may be wrong.
alice
X, thanks! Yes, a bucket and a shovel will probably be very useful! Anything else you think might be helpful for planting!
Ardesia, it sure doesn't need to be Em. Giant, long as it's the giant kind! Yes please!
Deb
I'll bring an assortment .. remind me the Friday before .. I've written it down but sometimes I can forget to read the reminders.
X
I know that feeling! Will do. (I think there's going to be an article about it in the Summerville paper and the Post & Courier, too.)
Then I'd better make sure my wellies are clean! Lol.
X
It's ok, I think we'll get to approve the photos before they are published! ;->
See you tomorrow at 9am!
Anne
X, Thanks for all you help today! I think it went pretty well, and I'm glad you were there to show those kids how to do things right!
Deb
Lol. I had a lot of fun. I think everyone did a terrific job and it looks terrific. Write down on your calendar somewhere to remind me to start some cassia/senna alata aka candle bush seeds for you around the end of february.
X
I will and I will also remind myself about the "Echo Yellow" lisianthus for you. :)
I'll post some before and after pics here when I have them all downloaded.
