Baby House Martin

Ashington, United Kingdom

My son brought a baby bird home and I have since found out it's a House Martin, I've had it for 5 days now and I am hoping all goes well when it finally leaves.

Looks like it should be able to fly now

I am going to take it back to where it was origianlly found and release it there, in the hope there will be other House Martins still in the area.

Good luck!

I think there's a fair chance it will be adopted by the others there, as far as I know they're not too fussy about feeding each others' fledgelings.

So he flew away then? Hope he survives. Well done to you for giving him a good start and a fair chance.

Thanks. I took it back to Longhirst and watched it fly away successfully.
I took this photo of it on my washing line before I left.
