Bye to Smith and Hawkin

Grapevine, TX(Zone 8a)

I just went by Smith and Hawken and was saddened to see that the entire chain is going out of business. It was one of my favorite browsing stores (maybe that was the problem - fun to browse, but expensive for regular purchases).

Currently everything in the store is 20-40% off, and the stores are still full.

Yes they are very neat stores, but as you said too expensive, it is sad that they couldn't adjust to the current situation.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Read on another thread that they have been owned by Miracle-Gro for about 5-6 years. Not the same. Victim of our economic times. Even their product at Target has been out of my price range..

Yeah, $159 for a rain gauge is out of my price range, even at 20% off.

Fun to look at, though.

Hmmm.... I wonder what this means.

Maybe they are going to be mail order. Or maybe exclusive to Target?

Colleyville, TX(Zone 8a)

I saw their line of products at Target. Mainly decorative and reasonably priced..although I will still wait for a sale.

Maybe like DG under new ownership..
