Is there any hope for babies?

Bridgewater, ME

Yesterday the 25th was the hatch day for my two silkie eggs,no babies and this the 26th,how much longer do I let her set on these two eggs?I don`t want her to continue to be broody as she does not eat enough and I want her to gain her weight back so after I take her off the eggs can I just put her outside and take her nesting bucket away from her? Or will she just continue to find some other place to sit?

If you are sure they have been under her for 25 days, I would take them away. I have a Nankin who has been on bad eggs for 3 months now. I was curious how long she would keep it up--and it seems indefinitely. She gets out to eat and drink--but she is totally obsessed with sitting on them. Nankins are very broody and will take over chicks from any other hen.

I think if you take the eggs away and move her, she will gradually come out of being broody and return to normal. Most of my standard broodies have behaved that way.

Thanks,I was looking forward to seeing babies with a mother hen,it would be my first time.

Well, at least you know she is a good broody. It is so frustrating when eggs don't hatch.

She went outside herself right behind her buddy, the rooster was so happy to have both his girls out with him this morning.Yes it is good to know I have at least one good broody

We learned two things from this, as Cat said you have a good broody, and you and hubby are great caretakers. You are the very best at keeping us informed, and I know I appreciate you for it. Your pic's are always great. Your dream of mom and babies will come true. Haystack
