It's been cool here... and not alot of sun some weeks... so we're a bit behind in flowering on everything this year...
Dossie here is just starting to set buds... I've between two and three dozen tiny buds starting off now.. it should be quite a show in a few weeks.. on this 4' tall cutting..
Dossie does seem to have a bunch of spyder mites here. compared to some brugs growing 2' away.. but it's been growing deeper into some affected morning glories than the others.. the MG's are now removed and the summer spraying program is now in effect.. but this hasn't deterred it from setting a pile of buds
Earlier I was a bit confused when I heard one was more attractive to mites than another .. I assumed it was more attractive.. but now what I think is going on is some are less attractive.. [ the fastest growing type plants are most attractive hince all brugs ]
I've come to this as a result of seeing mothers this spring... piles of 4' cuttings left in water for prolonged rooting.. leaning aganst the house.. these were about over run with spider mites... except for one cutting that ....with it's leaves and limbs inter twined with the others... but had no signs of spyder mites.. I'm growing this one out in a special place there.. to see who it is and if this seeming resistance is truely there.. and if can be passed on..
Here's a Dossie photo.. a bud at every leaf or stem juncture... this could be overpowering if the flowers open all together.. and just splended if they open a few new ones a night.. for a month or so.... first blooms here soon...

William,
Dossie's beautiful! I agree with Tussee about just the right skirt separation. Lovely color! What is her fragrance like?

Heat tolerance here is greatly influenced by the humidity. Dry days are murder on Brugs.

Gordon, I'd like to see more research done on Brug chemistry. To see what "sours the milk" and whether that remains constant regardless of location. Whether the immunity is controlled by a gene specific to that plant only or whether there's an "on and off" switch present in all Brugs and just happens to be on for that particular Brug. I have one Bug,Catalonis, that has been completely ignored by the grasshoppers — not a bite on it by grasshoppers. The caterpillars like it, but not the grasshoppers. There are a few others with some bite marks on the older leaves, but the rest of the plant it left alone. Flowers and buds seem fair game regardless of cultivar. Then there are all the other Brugs. I can practically hear the grasshoppers yelling, "Hey guys, over here! I've found a really tasty one." Those they chew right down to the woody core. If there is no woody core, they eat everything right down to ground level. So what is missing from these? What does your Mom's cutting have that is missing from the rest?

Your Dossie is looking great! Please post a photo of her in full bloom. She should look magnificent.

Coal Center, PA(Zone 6a)

I purchased this one and it isn't doing terrific at all.
I have Versi Peach, Pink Perfection, Maya, Lemon something, a triple, probably about 10 different brugs. It hasn't been terrible warm here this summer could that be the problem? I hate to lose it.
It came rooted and I expected great things.

Doosie Is Growing In Full Sun Here In Central Florida.
It seems to be a extreme heat Lover and does not take
a Bow. It has grown from a 12 inch plant to a 5 feet Plant
in 5 months.

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Well we have not had one day above 95 and 90 percent of the days have been in 80's and 60's at night. Lots of humidity tho. Guess I need to figure out how to warm her up.....does it like regular watering, on the wet or dry side? I sure don't want to lose it.

Lakeland, FL(Zone 9a)

Happgarden

Its Gets Water Everyday. Its Very Hot And Humid
Here In Florida. 95+ With a Heat Index Of 104.

The Lows Here Averages Around 75 Degrees
At Night.

So If Doosie Is Taking The Full Sun
Here It Will Do Fine In Full Sun In Kansas.

Happgarden,

Did you purchase all the Brugs at the same time? How long have you had it? Are they in pots or in the ground? Judging from your description of temperatures, they are ideal for almost all Brugs. They don't all acclimate to their new surroundings at the same rate nor do they grow at the same rate.

Brugs are fertilizer and water hogs, but they need to be growing actively. If they are growing slowly or not at all, such as when they are getting established, they don't use as much water and are subject to root rot. Have you fertilized your Brugs? Once established, feeding with a complete fertilizer that contains all the micro-nutrients, once or twice a week is not unusual.

Hellooooooooooooooooo Chocolate Brugmeister!
You certainly have a winner there. My favorite form: multi-skirts with just a bit of separation between them.
If it takes the heat here in Florida, you are absolutely right - it can take the heat anywhere!

Watertown, NY

I thought I had that one, but when I went looking for it I guess I was wrong. Must have gone to my friends.

Fort Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10b)

Doosie has been on my top ten list from it's first flush!! It takes the heat of the south like a champ!!

DeRidder, LA(Zone 9a)

Doosie is a beauty....we need more of these heat loving brugs for the South.

Doosie has beautiful shaped flowers. The pastel apricot color fits nicely to it.

Lakeland, FL(Zone 9a)

Thank you lady's and gentleman's for your kind
comments regarding Doosie that is being grown
out here in central Florida. I think it's a honor to
have a complement come from Monika when
one is growing a Brugmansia. If Doosie is performing
this way in the heat of our summer, Surely She must
Really will show her stuff in the Fall.

Veronica... well I guess I did it.. the temperatures are falling... and it went through a few dozen flowers in preperation.. and the sun is leaving..
but we surely seem to be getting a start on some color for it... it takes some time for it to get into it's stride .

It's getting there, but I love its current two-tone color!

Copperas Cove, TX(Zone 8b)

Doosie is a pretty one and that bottom one looks like a buttercup, lol. Love it too.

Little Rock, AR(Zone 7b)

My Doosie has not bloomed yet. It's looking like it is making a y. Do you think it might bloom inside. I probably have another 3 weeks or so before I have to bring it in.

Copperas Cove, TX(Zone 8b)

A lot of mine bloomed well in the garage last year with a grow light. Better than outside as a matter of fact, lol. No wind to knock buds off I guess, lol. Glad to know this one likes the heat and full sun. I have a small one that I will put in the ground next year now that I know it can take sun and heat.
