i got an angora pair at a local auction. they r so sweet and just adorable. i had to share my joy, i love my new babies and i fineally got pics of them taken today. they r only about 6-8 weeks old and have as long of fur as my lionheads do at 5mths of age already. i'm excited to watch them grow up!! these will be for show but i also want to learn about the wool process so i can make things with it too.
this is the black doe
my newest babies....
silkiechick--you are such a bad influence. I am seriously considering buying some registered Angora rabbits--someone here is advertising them. They claim they are excellent quality (they show them), very sweet and tame. I am also interested in using their fur for fiber. What is a reasonable amount for a registered doe? They are asking $85.
Oh! I am getting all squishy inside looking at your babies.....
oh they r such mellow sweethearts u will love haveing them! these r by far my most loveable ones of all my breeds i raise. i got mine at an auction so they didn't come with papers and i got a steal on the price of them. i'm trying to figure out if they r french or english though. i posted pics of them on byc someone said they think they might be a mix of the 2. the kid's will be showing them at our local fair that is unsanctioned next year so if they r they r not strict they can still show them so they get to gain experience. we love them reguardless and r thrilled to have them!!
rabbits with just pedigree r usually $40 or less here if they r actually registered rabbits usually r $75 up to $120 or more depending on breed/quality ect. i think $85 is very reasonable. angoras r hard to find here where i live so i was very excited to get the chance to get them.
There very cute silkie ^_^
How do you harvest the fur of a rabbit? Divine Angora Sox? - Could it be?
Silkie, guard your baby's!!!!!
Silkie - they are super adorable. Just love their colours.
I harvest my angora rabbits' fur every few months. It makes a wonderfully soft addition to sheep's wool. I can blend it in on my drum carder for wool.
Oh Catscan....you really should....they're adorable....and excellent for divine sockage...$85 is not insane, although it's quite high. Really for fiber you don't need "show quality" rabbits in terms of colour correctness and perfect ears and all that. It depends more on the colour(s) you are looking for. I like the greys and the tans because they blend so nicely with natural wool. The white is great for dyeing too. Some people do the plucking method. I ended up doing the trimming method because it's faster for me. Plus, since I'm blending, I don't need the full strand. I generally get 3-4 inch staple length from trimming.
o i love them! I miss my rabbits so much! Rabbits are next on my list to acquire. Especially since i already have hutches.
Oh Silkie they are divine!!!!!! I love them! He looks like a lil Twinkie.. LOL So cute!
That pic is too cute Claire, like BOING! LOL
Plucking rabbits? Ouch! What does a clipped bunny look like? I can imagine there wouldn't be much left of it; they seem to be mostly fur.
Silkie, I KNOW who your first bunny customer needs to be.. keep going and let us know when your ready.. the car is warmed up.
I would like to see a clipped bunny pic too..
So good to see you here Silkiechick.. it's always a pleasure to read your threads! I love the pics.. those lil bunniez look like a puff of smoke they are so soft looking! LOL
Hope all is well with Hunter. :)
thanks, so glad u all like them. claire love the pic! i got wild bunnies running around here too, yep they steal my garden stuff to,lol.
actually when u pluck them it doesn't hurt them u do it while they r shedding and most actually like and enjoy haveing it done if u work with them from time they r little. from what i saw shearing or clipping them u leave the fur just short and take off the main fur.
fran i can't wait till they r older to breed them. i bet they will make some beautiful babies!!
here is a link with some sheering pics for ya guys- http://www.amberangora.com/ if it doesn't show it right off there is a link that says angora shearing on the left click on that to bring them up.
thanks zz, sorry i haven't been here much got alot of stuff going on. i love and enjoy seeing all of u post also. hunter is doing good the mri result came back normal wich is a big answer to prayers. it means the problems r in his eyes and nothing in his brain causeing them. i was very glad to hear that. they keep resceduleing his other test so he has't gotten it done yet. it will be the 26th of next mth now.
