New Member interested in sharing plants/leaves!

Atco, NJ

Hello Everyone!

I am new to your forum and am looking forward to a great experience with all of you. You have much information to offer. I am a hobby grower with a nice collection of plants and many leaves in various stages of growth. I grow miniature african violets and some micros. All of my plants are grown under lights in Perma-Nest trays with egg crate and capillary matting. I find that wick watering works well for me. I would like to enhance my collection by trading young plants or leaves.

If anyone has leaves they would care to share, I would certainly be willing to send postage in advance. If anyone has leaves to trade, I would be willing to send my package first. I understand that some of you have had less than favorable experiences sending packages and then receiving nothing in return. I assure you that I am just an honest hobby grower who desires to expand my collection just as you all do.

I will begin working on a list of varieties which I can give to you and also a list of varieties I would like to have. That would be pretty much anything that I don't have now. I hope that someone out there will be up for a trade.

Thank you,

Pat

good.........we all love to share and to trade................

Hi Pat!

It's wonderful to meet you! I only have three AVs and two of those are standards, so I'm not much help as far as AVs go. If you spend much time around here, I bet you'll be into the other Gesneriads in no time, and *then* I can be a trading buddy with you! LOL

In the meantime, it's great to have you here and I hope you get to enjoy lots of great trades. Everyone here is so sweet, giving, and generous! I'm sure you'll find lots of new friends!

Please post pictures when you have time. We all love looking at pictures! And jump into any conversation that strikes your fancy!

Welcome Pat!

I'm always up for a trade. I am interested in the minis and micros. And would love to find a mini or micro with girl foliage that trails...

Anyone know if there is one ??

I'm also looking for strep: Big Yolk.

If you click on my name, and then go to my journal, and then look under the african violets, they are all listed there. And more are on their way in the mail, lol...

Taylor, here are a few suggestions for your mini girl trailer. A couple are semimini. Don't know if that's alright or if you want true mini. I had Biscayne Trail once and it was very lovely!

BISCAYNE TRAIL (Williams) - Lavender blue single/semidouble blossoms over Champion variegated medium green girl leaf foliage. Semiminiature. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/180824/

LADY TRAIL (Brenton) - Double blue with girl leaf. Compact, miniature. http://www.violetgallery.com/html%20pics/ladytrail.html

RAMBLIN' LASSIE- (9022) 03/23/2001 (S. Sanders/R. Brenton) Semidouble blue-lavender star. Variegated medium green and white girl foliage. Semiminiature trailer http://www.violetgallery.com/html%20pics/ramblinlassie.html http://www.violetbarn.com/ramblin'_lassie.htm
.
I'm sure there are plenty more, but that's a start! ^_^

Raingazer-
Thank you for those links...is it just me, or do those three all look alike? They all have the same flower and foliage, lol...

I had ordered ramblin lasse a few days ago, so glad I did!

I was kinda hoping to find one with a different colored bloom. There was one on ebay "Cambridge Missy", but I coulnd't find but one picture of a bloom, and it was nothing special...but the description sounded fantastic...

LOL Well, yeah, they do, but there are those people who want them all just because they have different names. ;o) And that's okay. I'm the same way with Petrocosmeas. I know several are very similar but I want every one available anyway, so it's all a matter of choice. I had Cambridge Missy ages ago, too, but don't think it ever bloomed. Let me see if I can find a pic of it... (insert calming elevator music)

thanks for those pis.

I'm still not seeing the green edges to the blooms, like it says in the description...hmm

i wonder if it sported somewhere along the way...

Oh wowwww....That pic of Lady Trail is gorgeous!! I have some Lady Trail leaves rooting, and also Shiawasee (sp?) Trail, and they both look exactly the same.

Hello Neighbor Pat - will get a list to you as soon as I have a little extra time..

I didn't see the green edges, either, but thought maybe it was my eyes. LOL It takes a pretty fabulous AV to impress me anyway. I have an awful time growing them, and they're just not worth my time, effort, and shelf space if they're not "knock your socks off" gorgeous.

Shiawasee Trail is one I have wanted for a long time, but never have gotten. I hope you have good luck with it jmp! It's on my "might be worth the effort" list. LOL

Medford, NJ

Rain, I have three leaves, only one so far, the biggest, has produced a baby, I will let you know if the others follow through and send you one when they are big enough.

Thank you, jmp! I'm trying to get a lot of things propagated, seeds sown, those types of things, so hopefully I'll have lots of trading fodder in the fall. :o)

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I just potted up 3 baby pots of Shiawasee Trail.
Let me show you how tiny they are. I put two crowns in each one but on the third pot, she has no color and I am fertilizing.

How adorable those are, Gail! What is the variegated one at the bottom of the picture? It's real pretty, too!

Y'all are really making it hard on me to resist getting some AVs. I emailed an order to an AV vendor the other day, but they never replied so I took that to mean I'm not really supposed to order them. But I called them, just in case! Ha! They didn't answer the phone, so that really made me think I'm not supposed to order them. But then, I went to Walmart and they have their self-watering pots for half price! So that got me to thinking maybe I should order them. I'm really being wishy-washy about this AV order! LOL

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Just order leaves from people like Cedar Creek Violets, etc........don't go on ebay. Not long ago I paid 8 dollars for one leaf of 'Tiger' and the vendor said it was rare. Goldleaf dmailed me to say that Cedar Creek had it for 2 leaves for 2.00.........always check the sites of people we know before buying on ebay for leaves or plants.

PJ's is a good inexpensive vendor on ebay sending out big plants...........often some leaves are broken but still a big plant with the ability to stick some others.

That is Frosty Frolic that is variegated.............

Pat - I have family visiting, or I would have seen your post sooner! Welcome!

One great way to add/share to your collection is to participate in a gessie Round Robin, or play in the occasional Bingo game . . . did I say Bingo??? Hmm . . . take a look at this link . . . http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1017987/

Atco, NJ

I'm not familiar with either of these, but it sounds interesting. I would like to participate. I'll submit my name through the link that you sent for the Bingo. How often do you have a Round Robbin and how do I get my name on that list?

I'm so glad to have found this forum. You have all been very friendly and helpful. I didn't know quite what to expect, but you certainly surpassed any expectations I may have had. You have all made me feel very welcome. I'm brand new here but you don't make me feel like an outsider. It's a wonderful thing!

D-mail Syrumani and she will add you on the list. Glad you feel welcome here :)

Pat, we will have another round robin in the fall..............they are so much fun and you get so many new plants, leaves, etc.......

Someone will announce it at the time and give everyone plenty of time to sign up.

Atco, NJ

Thanks! I'll be watching for that. It sounds like great.

Atco, NJ

I've done my best to come up with a trade list. Right now I can offer leaves for trade. Soon I will have many varieties of young plants. As the baby AVs grow larger, I will continue to update the list.

OK! I moved my list to the Want/Have List where it belongs. Thanks for looking. Hope you find something you might like to have.
