Seed Pods

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

A while back I got carried away with Brugman's thread on crossing. Tried to cross a sanguinea with what I thought was another sanguinea. For the last month I have an egg-shaped seed pod. (Not long ago I would have called it a thingy) I've left a 1 inch calyx collar around it. The plant is starting to drop a few leaves. Weather into the mid 50s at night.
What do I do now? I've been told (Rich -thank you)) that it takes 10 months for the pod to mature. Brugman - the donee was the one you called a vulcanicola.
Right now I would willingly lose all my other brugs to save these guys.
Help!

LOL!! what did he start! I have two one inch or so pods and don't know what to do. I check on them almost hourly:)

Where are the seedpod pictures? I want to see some more seedpod pictures!!! Lol, just jealous that you guys have round seedpods as I have so few myself. Most of mine are long and pendulous. Too few of the seedpods I really love and no red hybrids in the making at all. Vulcanicola x sanguinea sounds like a wonderful hybrid. Now, to cross that with an Arborea?...

Liz, brugman has said before it takes 3-4 months for seed pods to mature, maybe sanguinea take longer. he also says he has rooted branches with seed pods on them. i think i would be tempted to make it its own heated greenhouse!

Liz: Send it home with me on the weekend and I'll put it in the greenhouse and take care of it for you. LOL

Ņot on your life, Brugcrazy! But if you're REALLY nice I'll let you touch it! LOL.
But I still need to know what to do with it. I haven't the heart to cut off the branch with the seed pod. If it died I've lost a year - right? And I don't care what anybody says - sanguinea is harder to root than the others.
Do I keep feeding it all winter?

Liz,
I had a Jutner orange seed pod on the branch and cut the branch off the bush. The branch has now rooted and I potted it up in a three gallon pot... the pod is still attached to the branch. The pod doesn't look like it's growing a whole lot but it is still alive.

Brugcrazy already knows that I took a cutting for her. Broke my heart - had to close my eyes to do it. LOL. Now it's up to her to keep it alive. The pressure is off! Whew!!

Liz: Don't cut the branch off. Keep feeding it and bring it in when it gets too cold outside. Let the seedpod develop until maturity and don't take too many cuttings of it. I still think it would be better off at my house for the winter. LOL. Better lock it up when I'm down on the weekend.

It's as tall as I am - which isn't saying much. You couldn't sneak it out under your coat Brugcrazy! Then you'd have to climb 100 stairs up with it!
