Rec'd mine today from one of my favorite ebay sellers: emeraldgoddessgardens http://myworld.ebay.com/emeraldgoddessgardens/
Needless to say...I was as impressed as I was with my first order from her!!! Sadly the little plant that Bluestone sent out never seemed to be big enough to make it (tried 2x)....LOOK at the size on this one - for only $9.99!!! Chloe decided she needed to help with holding the new "baby" as she referred to it.....LOL
Should you be ISO of a Kleim's Hardy....
Thank you for turning me to this plant.Seems like a good deal too. Mike
Beautiful plant but what is it? Great foliage. Thanks Elaine
Mike - you'd be very pleased w/her plants...I have been w/both orders I've placed!!
Elaine - sorry, she's a Kleim's Hardy Gardenia http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/79807/
Chantell, are you planning on leaving the Kleim's planted out side?I see where it is grown at various places in the US, but don't have a good handle on what to expect.Would you shead a little light?I think I'm OK in my zone, (close to 8 ), and isn't there a place to give a good report on a grower? I guess you can tell I'm a little puter Slow. Mike
PS, I'm real excited about the Kleims. I almost bought one at another place, but this place is "up town"
Nah, Mike not "puter slow" - I think I'm the slow one tonight...are you asking if we have feedback here on DG or where? I gave her feedback on ebay, of course....but unless they (vendors) pay to list their products on our Watchdog there's no specific place here on DG - except to casually mention them in the forums like minded folks would frequent. Klein's hardiness seems to vary site to site...I've seen from zone 7 to 8. I plan on planting her out front where I have the micro-climate area going on. I would think you'd be find planting her outdoors! Forget the "uptown" places with their uptown prices. I won't recommend a seller unless I'm happy with them. ALL of the plants I bought from her last year are doing wonderful and did you see the SIZE on the Kleim's she sent me??? I don't believe Kleims to be as difficult to find as it was a few years ago...obviously if you can find it locally for a good price that would save you on shipping....and this time of year most the nurseries have great sales so they're not stuck with stock come fall.
I have to add an enthusiastic recommendation for emeraldgoddessgardens! I just got my first order from her... I didn't get the gardenia, I just ordered a dwarf papyrus that was offered with free shipping for half what I'd probably pay elsewhere (if I could even find it). Not only did I get a lovely plant -- packed with moisture crystals so it arrived in great shape, and with the pot cutely wrapped in colored tissue just to make it pretty to unpack -- but she included a bonus plant with my order! I'm blown away.
Thanks, Chantell!
Ahhhh Jill.....sooo glad you were pleased!!! She has wonderful prices...always wraps things with pretty tissue paper and a freebie plant.
I added a glowing review to GW for her. Gotta find the link for leaving her eBay feedback, also... it's probably somewhere in my email box!
I have had a klehm s hardy gardenia for 3 years now, The first year it froze to the ground.
Since then I have mulched it with cedar bark mulch each winter . Any part of the plant that was exposed to the weather froze back. I did take a cutting of it and it rooted quite easily. Unfortunately a rabbit ate a big part of it this year just as it was ready to bloom. I did get two blooms and they smelled great.
I do reccomend mulching any exposed parts of it during the winter. We had a brutal ice storm this past winter with 4 or 5 inches of ice on the ground. It came throught with flying colors
Good to know, time....I'll take that advice and maybe get one to "pull" through a winter for me
