As you can see, I am in 9B. Do I have to worry about more pests by staying in the pots? Too warm for FL? Still 7-7-7 b/c it technically would stay in the pot, rather than in the soil?
Plunging in FL? Should I, shouldn't I?
What is the coldest you get there? The whole idea for me to leave them in pots so when it gets to terribly cold you can take them out of the ground and put were they are protected from the cold shed ,house where ever I think if it was me mine would be planted in the ground. And left there Cocoa should be warm enough
When I bury mine in the ground, I usually cut a bigger drainage hole in the pot so that when I bury it, the roots can spread out. This allows me to use smaller pots so that when I put them in the greenhouse they take up less room.
If it gets cold enough that you have to dig it up for protection, you can dig around the outside of the pot and cut the roots growing on the outside of the pot so that you can lift the pot out of the ground. You will still be feft with enough of a root ball to get started the next season.
I am in 8b and I have a few Plumeria in the ground - one belongs to the landlord and has been in the ground 5 years - I've been here almost a year and have seen no signs of blooms. My others are too young to bloom.
