This may not be the right forum if not, sorry. This is my first try at it. Is this close to the way you do it?

Hi Possum6, That does look pretty close to the way I propagate cuttings.
Heres a method that I have found that works great for me at home...
As a cutting medium, I like to use a mixture of course vermiculite and perlite.
For most plants, I use a 50/50 mix of the two. If I am rooting succulent type plants like plumeria or cactus, I use 2 parts perlite to one part vermiculite.
When I take a tip cutting, I only leave the top 2 or 3 leaves. If any of the remaining leaves are full size, they get cut in half. This helps to prevent wilting. I also mist them with a hose or a spray bottle whenever I look at them. As far as rooting hormones go, I have been using dip n grow with good results. I use a dibble stick to poke holes before inserting the cuttings. I like to have the mix moist as it helps when firming them in. I then just keep them in bright indirect light, out of the wind and dont let them dry out. Hibiscus usually takes about 4 to 6 weeks to root in hot weather, a little longer if its cooler. There are many different ways to root cuttings, this is just one of the ways that has worked well for me. I would like to hear what has worked well for other people as well...

Best of luck,
Dave

I'm using straight Perlite and keeping them in the basement, the temp stay's around 72 degree's.

possum6, Interesting that you keep the pots in water. Do you keep them in water the entire time? I'm just wondering about possibly drowning the roots but I've never rooted a hibiscus before so I'm learning.

I never knew this is how you started a cutting. Either straight perlite or a mix with vermiculite, huh, how's it looking now possum? Did you take the tip from where you pinched a plant back for the cutting? Interesting...I wouldn't mind experimenting some.
