Bingo, anyone?

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

I am feeling the need to shop for AV leaves . . . In order to counter that urge, I am thinking it is past time for a Bingo game! What does everyone else think?

If anyone is interested - in playing and/or donating a prize - please dmail me. If there is enough interest, we can get the game organized and ready to go by August 1st . . .

Let me know!

Adorable, Nicole! Looks like she is ready to go! I don't know how to play your bingo but it might be fun if you would allow me in to play.

I have another idea...what about Christmas in July? Since it is hard to send plants in the winter, everyone could do an exchange now. Somehow we could have match the person with their "wants" and another with their "haves". All I have to share right now is episcias so I would have to be matched with someone who wants one and somehow figure out what they already have so they won't get a second one but they will still be suprised. I don't know...just a thought but it might be too complicated.

Connie -

I don't doubt that Christmas in July would be an excellent thing to do . . . I think most people here in Texas would not participate, 'cause of the extreme heat we are dealing with . . . although I do not claim to speak for everyone here. What is everyone else's thoughts? We could do that instead of a Bingo . . .

There is a "sticky" thread on the AV&G forum where each member can post a list of "haves" and "wants" (one post per member, please!) . . . I DO hope that eveyone keeps their list up to date . . .

I wasn't thinking of the heat in other areas. I don't know how you all play bingo and I was assuming the winner would win a plant and it would be shipped to them. I am speaking out of turn and I apologize for that.

I do need to list my haves and wants. Guess I really need to be working on that. Thanks, Nicole :)

Oh, don't worry about it! I am always willing to try something new . . . just not usually in July or August! That's why I thought if the Bingo game takes place in August, the gifts could be sent starting in September, when temperatures may be a bit more reasonable all around.

The way Bingo worked last time . . . there are a few players who donate a "gift" of some kind - could be plants, leaves, seeds, $$, etc. (as long as it's gessie related, somehow). Then, as the Bingo's started coming in, the winner would pick a number, and would be awarded the prize associated with that number. It actually worked out pretty well.

Oh, I see. Well there ya go...Sept would be a good month for everyone.

Thank you!

I want to play! I may even have something to donate. Will have to check things out and get back to you on that. I've not had time to be on DG much lately...again. Seems like just when I get things settled and think I'll have time to play with plants and visit on DG, something else crops up and I don't have any free time at all. My uncle passed away unexpectedly last week. What a difficult time... It does my heart good to be on here with friends! Hugs to you all!

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Sorry to hear about that, Amy! (((hug)))

I have put you on the list. ^_^

I'll play. I find it fun and a little something extra to do on-line.

Count me in and let's play in August......too hot to get outside anyway. Bingo is so much fun and, you are right, Nichole. The presents wouldn't be going out until the first of September anyway. (That would help some people with the weather.....not us ....lol)

Very excited.........................I hope a lot of people play. There are so many wonderful gifts people can offer as well as plants or leaves. There is First Class, AVSA membership, subscription to The Gesneriad Society and on and on...........

I have a good idea...........don't publish who is giving what...........just post the gifts offered as they come in. This will entice people to sign up.

Kittrell, NC(Zone 7b)

I would love to play.......but don't know how. I could probably come up with a prize of some sort. Just someone tell me how to play!!!! LOL!!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I don't explain things well..............so, Syrumani, when you get home from work, would you come on and explain to all our new friends how to play.

Don't miss out............just too much fun.............all you newbies without many plants, sit back and have fun playing and make the rest of us who have been growing longer, cough up the prizes..........unless you really want to donate a gift certificate of maybe 10.00 to your favorite vendor for someone.

We usually end up with about 8 or 10 prizes..........all good ones............
I will let Nichole explain.............

I'd like to play also. Count me in! Lou

Gotcha, Lou!

If someone would like to donate a prize, please dmail me with details. Only broad details will be given on the thread regarding prizes – 2 $20.00 prizes, plant of choice, surprise package, etc. Prizes will be labeled as #1, #2, #3, etc. Once the “bingo” calls begin, the Bingo person will choose a number, and will be awarded the prize assigned to that number. The person donating the prize will be notified via dmail with delivery info . . .

There will be a plant list made available by the end of this week (yes, I'm very busy at work!! Each participant should submit their “card” with 24 choices to me no later than July 31, 2009, so you have time to look over the list!

There will be 1 call made per day, with some "bonus" calls made throughout the month . . . while I will do my best to keep an eye on each players card, it is up to each player to keep up their cards and call Bingo! (now, if someone goes out of town during August for whatever reason, arrangements can be made to have someone else manage your card while you are away).

Does anyone care if I make the list and do the calls, or was it better to have a 2 person team?

If anyone has any questions, please ask!

Seymour, IN(Zone 5b)

Sounds good to me. Thanks for all you efforts on putting this together! Lou

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I think you are honest enough to do both and your kids can draw.....they love the excitement!!! ^_^

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

I figure I'll borrow my mother's Bingo ball, and just assign a plant to each number . . .

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I don't even know what a bingo ball is (LOL)
Never played bingo except on DG!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I am bumping this up so people can see it. If we don't have enough people to play and have fun, we can't have it...............think very carefully about what you will be missing..............we have never had to ask people to play.....................this is a first!!! ^_^

Hello Everyone!

I'm new here but would certainly like to join your Bingo game. I don't know just what is involved. Please fill me in so I'll know what to do. Thanks!
