Hi Dana. I think those red/purple spots are just a natural occurrence on some cultivars. I think my dark reds, such as Hurricane, mostly get them on the leaves. I've discussed this with a few people, and it's not rust or a disease or a virus, and the consensus is that it's not mildew either. It seems harmless, and other than stripping off the leaves, which I wouldn't do, there isn't anything to be done about them.

I got those spots too! I sprayed for insects one day in my pool room and a little over-spray got on the leaves. That is when I noticed the spots. So i automatically assumed it was the insecticide but i really didn't look at the leaves before I sprayed, just assumed that was it.

Mine hasn't bloomed yet :(
Just removed it from it's pot and planted it in the ground, maybe that will speed things up?

Dan it might have been ideal to keep it in the pot for winter to pluck it out of the ground and store it for winter just in case we get one like last year. Mine are slow flowering this year alot of them I dug up and stored bare root for the winter. Ordered frost cloth and they sold out took the money and never sent it. Cold came early have way too many to wrap so as fast as I could i dug them up and piled them in my shed one on top of the other it was terrible. kept heat in there afraid case they had no dirt to protect there roots they were going to be a memory lol. I lost a few lost all the tags but this year I am starting early. celadine flowered out

Yeah this past winter was a rough one. My dad lives in Lake Wales and all of his tropicals got burnt or worse DEAD. Yet I didn't suffer much loss. I couple of burned leaves but nothing serious. I also have a VERY large pool that should help with heating during the cold snaps.

plants around the pool did great but I live in a cold pocket it was 20 here we had ice

Yeah, it was a chilly one. I plant on building a temporary greenhouse when the weather starts getting cooler. Just to hold my plants until the danger is over.

I use the temp. garages made out of pipe12x20 I put up 3 of these and they are full. in the spring I take the plastic off l and leave them till the fall buy a bunch of those heavy duty clamps and clamp the plastic to the pipes make doors on the ends fill 5 gallon buckets of water to heat during the day This year I'm saving gallon jugs going to paint them black and that will help. And a heater on the ends for the freezeing temps it works good not alot of money in it Would like to find a twin water bed mattress with its heater and use that I know that would work good

I have these little flameless Coleman camping heaters that use those little bottles of propane. The work nice and are very safe.

Yeah you know how many i would have to have I bought a kerosene heater 8 bucks a gallon forget that too Jewish oven is the best O sun

Ha ha, well i guess fortunately i don't have too many plants yet. A greenhouse that would contain all of my plants wouldn't have to be too large.

suggestion: try Craig's List for waterbed.
