Seed Pods

FLOYD, VA(Zone 6a)

Hi Folks!!

I have had hibiscus for some time now, but until now I have not had one to set a seed pod. This is a double tree hibiscus. What is the protocol for seeds? the pod keeps getting bigger. Do i just let it alone or harvest it? Had no idea this even happened, although I should have figured it could,

Thanks,
Juanita

Is this a hardy hibiscus? I'm not familiar with the hardy ones down here in South Florida.

No Amore it is a regular hibiscus. I bring it in for the winter.

You need to let the pods ripen. Watch out though they will sometimes explode and you will loose the seeds. Get some of the wedding favor netting bags like you put seed or rice in and place it over the pod. Loosely tie it. This will catch the seeds.

I think the whole process from a pod forming until the time they ripen and fall off on their own is about 6-8 weeks. they will dry out and turn brown as they are ripening,

Thanks folks. That is kind of what I thought, but I needed some sage advise from the experts.
