For the past 3 years, we have had Baltimore and Orchard Orioles come to our jelly and orange feeders. They usually would leave in June. This year they are still here in mid-July, bringing their offspring to the feeders. At first, the young fledglings sat there below the feeder fluttering their wings until the adult bird fed them. Now they help themselves. It has been neat to see this, as the feeder is right next to my studio window.
How long do orioles stay in Missouri?
Wow Jill that is great! I didn't think they stayed that long there. What part of Missouri are you in?
You are so lucky. I've had them come through but never stayed. They do stay the whole season, till migration. I've tried to keep them around but never had your luck.
Some of mine are leaving already...no big crowds in the morning now. I live in Indiana.
The reason I can't keep them is I have too much forest. It border's my property all around.
They make a beautiful photo!
I too love that photo, Jill.
About the photo, how close were you to the bird's and what type of camera?
I'm a newbie on this site, so posting a reply to all.
Thanks for your comments & compliments!
I live in central Missouri, about a mile from the river, surrounded by woods, but our house sits on a cleared field, where we can see the birds flying in towards the feeders.
The shot of the male oriole feeding its baby was taken from about 6 feet, through a window, next to where I work.
I use a Canon 5D, 28-300 IS lens
Jill, We look forward to seeing more of your pics!
Looks like a bird heaven/haven at your house! Love the pics!
