Do you guys remember a thread several years ago about how some of us couldn't open our windows because our cats would tear or push through our vinyl screens and escape? Well, I finally figured out a way to open my windows WIDE open and keep my cats safely inside! Only took me 12 yrs to figure it out, but hey, who needs to BREATHE during the summer, right?
Baby gates! My blessed baby gates! Yes, indeedy. They're ugly as heck - a home decorator's nightmare, to be sure, but by putting a baby gate across the inside of the window frame, I can open the window all the way, still see out the window, and the cats can't escape. They could, theoretically, stick their paws through the gate, snag the screen, and tear it, but they still can't escape ... and I'VE GOT AIR!!!! After more than a decade of 90+ degree summer temps in a house with no air conditioning and windows that I could only open 2", I can't begin to explain the bliss of a breeze wafting its way through my home.
If I knew who invented baby gates, I'd mount a billboard in her/his honor.
Let's not even speculate on why it took me TWELVE YEARS to come up with this fix.
